WordTalk

Post by Phil8659 »

If you have ever viewed some of my Video books of the Platonic Dialogs, you would notice I have Word Reading it. Now, anyone who knows Word, knows that the imbedded Microsoft Reader cannot do what you are seeing. The Microsoft Reader in Word seems to be stuck in Windows 95, and it will only use Microsoft Voices, or System allowed voices. Not only that, the Microsoft version does not even use XML, the very same XML they use for voicing is not allowed in Word, in their version of the reader.

The reader I use, originated in WordTalk, another dinosaur, which was never updated. The macro for it was password locked, so it makes me believe that the author of it from the University of Edenborough forgot the password in order to keep it updated. Anyway, they ran it as is, a 1.5 meg file using antiquated programming calls to things which actually would crash word, at least later versions of it.
Well, I broke the encryption using a password breaker and started editing it, to bring it up to date, so, my version is 72 kb. What is that? about .5 of the original size.
So, when you see Word being read in my Vids, it is my version of WordTalk
Now, since they have pulled WordTalk off the web altogether, it cannot be found anywhere, I will up load it to the Internet Archive, along with my macro version, which is editable, for anyone who wants to do that. If one wants to break the encryption on the original file, they can do that too.

My version is fully compatible with at least Word 32bit, which is what I use, as Microsoft has enforced using only their voices on the 64 bit version.
A functional macro template for word is supposed to be independent of version.
But, I never tested my version in 64 bit word, maybe I will do that today before I upload this stuff.
Yup, that is what I will do. Should not take long.

64 bit Word will use Ivona TTS vices along with Microsoft voices, but that is it.
So, the WordTalk macro works, with Microsoft's newer allowed voice packages, where the 32 bit word, works will all sapi 5 voices.
