I also had to be a member of the Navy's PRP, so I could deal with Nuclear Weapons. PRP stands for Personnel Reliability Program. They had to make sure I was sane enough, competent enough, to deal with nuclear Weapons.

I also took the PhD written Personality profile, there was no score, but there was a title. They said that I was a "Consummate Observer". They said that I was so observant from watching people all my life that I could know what people were going to say before they did so. They said because of this I was like a left fielder in a game of baseball (metaphor), That I had few friends because my abilities intimidated people, they didn't like me finishing their sentences. The PhD's were correct, by the way. People would call me a know-it-all, not because I did, because I didn't, and I still don't. But I scared them that I could finish some of their sentences. People don't like it when you can, SEEMINGLY, read their minds. So they lash out. I didn't mind, I have never ever approached anyone to befriend them. Populating a new drive is a time when you are copying another drive's data for some reason.
Never buy those enclosed drives, they more often than not do not have sufficient fans and you cannot open them without voiding the warrantee. If you are forced to use them, then you have to trickle the job, letting it cool down intermittently.

Open the door to the array, and place one of those cheap fans in front, in line with the direction of air from the back fan, and do this for both boxes, one you are copying, and the other populating, this will keep the temp of the array well into the safe zone.
This is the only time you run the box balls to the walls for hours even days. Keep an eye on the temp using Crystaldisk Info which is free.

Now those cheap fans, you can easily make a hanger for them cut from a coat hanger. The screw holes in the fan, you can use to slide it onto the ends of the reshaped coat hanger. You fashion it to hang right in front of the drives in the array.

The results I get is approx 15 C cooler. I use the 80 or 120 mm fans They plug right into the usb port and Amazon sells them on the cheap.

or you can use one of those phone chargers that take a usb plugin.

If you have a single external drive you can take the drive out of, you should take it out and put the large fan on it and when done, put it back in the mini box.

Almost forgot, Use FreeFileSync, do not depend on Microsoft to do the job right. You might regret depending on Windows built in file transfer. Microsoft's file utilities may be okay for everyday, but by now you know it often crashes. Microsofts file system is hooked into things it should not be doing and prioritizes data collection over doing its fucking job.

And if you think that I'm stupid enough to log onto your server and potentially give away my location, remember I was on ARPANET probably before you were born and I've been computing again since probably before you were born.
