Schools in the area have shut early and 700 police have been brought in for the match between Aston Villa and Maccabi Tel Aviv tonight, due to kick off at 8pm, with mass Muslim demonstrations planned. It probably won't affect me much, being on the other side of the city, and my family are traditionally Blues supporters anyway, that is, Birmingham City, the other major club in Birmingham, although I've never really followed football. We played it at school, on occasion, or an adapted version, at least, but I much preferred field hockey. I suspect, however, that football will be the last thing on most people's minds, tonight.
