Debates? Televised debates these days are a joke.
Are you clueless about debates, and have you ever actually witnessed a real debate?

Debates? Televised debates these days are a joke.
Have I seen real debates? Taken part in real debates? Sure. Remember, you are not asking me what I think of the current style "candidate debates". Earlier it was customary to be debating ONE ISSUE (even if it were candidates debating). For the record, I am old enough to have watched the first nationally televised Presidential debates, Nixon-Kennedy, in 1960 << which also the first I could vote in >>
Actually, what compelled me to ask that question is that just prior to that I had asked it this question:There is no evidence that history repeats itself on a strict 100-year cycle, as each event is unique due to different contexts and people. However, history does show recurring patterns and cycles, a concept often summarized by the saying, "History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes".
To which it said (font size and [bracketed insert] to emphasize date, mine):"What is the significance of "Weimar"?
Do you guys see anything "rhyming" between the "Weimar Republic" period of precisely one hundred years ago and that of the "Trump Republic" period of today?"Weimar" is significant because it is the namesake for the Weimar Republic, Germany's first democratic government (1919–1933), which was founded in the city of Weimar after World War I. This period [1919–1933] is historically significant for its vibrant but volatile culture and its eventual collapse into authoritarianism, marked by extreme hyperinflation and the rise of the Nazi Party.
Well then, you have to agree that modern debates are a joke.

Some are just bait.Impenitent wrote: ↑Tue Oct 21, 2025 5:17 pm if the first one is a debate, are all subsequent ones rebates?

Walker, if you think my challenging your identification of "garden variety liberals" as leftists means I am arguing that the left does not exist then you are misunderstanding me entirely. There most certainly is a "left".
I was unclear. I was speaking to principle, but not using you as an example. Rather, I have heard folks declare that there is no Left and Right ... folks declare a lot of things like something is nothing, war is peace, up is down ... you get the drift. But none of these are written with you in mind, personally.MikeNovack wrote: ↑Wed Oct 22, 2025 4:39 pmWalker, if you think my challenging your identification of "garden variety liberals" as leftists means I am arguing that the left does not exist then you are misunderstanding me entirely.
