Kimmel suspension
Kimmel suspension
The Kimmel suspension draws back the curtain and reveals that a small number of companies control the media. And that these companies are easily being manipulated by the Trump administration.
Re: Kimmel suspension
Here is a clip of Kimmel celebrating Tucker Carlson being fired by FOX.

And here is a clip of Kimmel celebrating Rosanne Barr getting fired by ABC over a tweet.
https://x.com/TimcastNews/status/1968491997246730340
And now that HE's the one getting fired for his big ugly mouth, suddenly this is a free speech issue?
Bullshit.
Kimmel still has freedom of speech. He has not been deprived of life, liberty, or property by the government. He can stand on a street corner and make all the vile jokes he wants. He can write a blog, start a Substack or a podcast, write a letter to the editor of the New York Times.
Nobody has a Constitutional right to a network tv program. His employer made a business decision. Nexstar, an owner of numerous ABC affiliates in conservative areas of the country, took him off the air. Sinclair, another owner of many local tv stations, was about to do the same. ABC saw the writing on the wall and took him off the air nationally.
If you mocked someone who'd just been assassinated, you would not be punished by the government. But your employer might well decide that you are bad for business.
And what the hell is it with the left? JFK had many political enemies. I don't recall anyone making jokes when he was assassinated. Same with Bobby. Same with MLK. And more to the point, nobody made jokes when George Wallace, a rabid segregationist (and good Democrat) was shot and paralyzed for life.
A 31 year old husband and father, whose thing in life was going around and engaging in peaceful, civil dialog with people who disagreed with him, was just murdered in cold blood.
If you can't manage a shred of human decency, then at least shut the fuck up.
What the hell happened to the left?
Man the hypocrisy is thick lately.

You are saying that before yesterday you did not know that? If so, I say you are woefully ill-informed. Look up media consolidation. Clear Channel. It's been going on a long time. A very small number of companies decide what you see on tv and what you hear on the radio.
Like when Congress hauled Jack Dorsey and Mark Zuckerberg in to testify and told them to toughen up on content moderation, and they started throwing conservatives off their platforms? Like when Twitter banned the sitting president, Trump, in the middle of his reelection campaign?
Man the hypocrisy is thick lately.
Re: Kimmel suspension
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/pol ... 223851007/President Donald Trump said overwhelming negative coverage of him by television networks should be grounds for the Federal Communications Commission to revoke broadcast licenses.
Trump made the suggestion as he defended FCC chairman Brendan Carr for pressuring ABC to pull comedian Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show off the airwaves over comments Kimmel made regarding the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel was suspended indefinitely.
“They're 97% against ‒ they give me only bad publicity or press," Trump claimed in a Sept. 18 gaggle with reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew back to the United States from the United Kingdom. "I mean, they’re getting a license. I would think maybe their license should be taken away. It will be up to Brendan Carr.”

Oooh. You're getting closer to that civil war you crave. You should be celebrating.

Someone on Fox News has put 2 and 2 together and asked the question of what happens when the other side of the coin becomes fashionable again and how FCC pressure could be used by the other side to pull their commentators off the air.

Re: Kimmel suspension
Kimmel was fired by a Woke company, not by Trump, and for being unfunny (his ratings were in the tank), and for having put his political ideology before his duty to entertain. He imagined himself to be some kind of social activist, whereas he was really just an unskilled entertainer.
But his freedoms have not been taken away. He can still say as many stupid and ideologically-possessed things as he always did. He just now has to say them from the street-corner instead of a lavishly-paid post on TV. So he's lost nothing, and we've lost nothing in losing him.

Re: Kimmel suspension
What I've heard is that the chairman of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), who was appointed by Trump, exerted some kind of pressure (perhaps suggestively at least) on the media company hosting Kimmel's show to take it off the air. Is that not true?Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Sat Sep 20, 2025 3:15 pmKimmel was fired by a Woke company, not by Trump, and for being unfunny (his ratings were in the tank), and for having put his political ideology before his duty to entertain. Look closely at what Kimmel did NOT say. He did not say that anyone thought that Peterson was a member of the Right or of MAGA. He said that the Right wanted to be sure that everyone knew that he wasn’t. This is not a condemnation of the Right.

Re: Kimmel suspension
Are you saying that Kimmel's remark was misconstrued by Trump and therefore it's much ado about nothing or are you saying that it wasn't pressure by the FCC chair that caused Kimmel's show to be removed and therefore it's much ado about nothing? Or both or something else?commonsense wrote: ↑Sat Sep 20, 2025 4:33 pm Look closely at what Kimmel did NOT say. He did not say that anyone thought that Peterson was a member of the Right or of MAGA. After Colbert got canned, Trump said that Kimmel would be next.
Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers are next.
Just saying.

Disney pulled the plug, through the ABC network. Neither is a particularly "right wing" group, I think you'll agree. The trigger event was Kimmel's attempt to lie to the public about a homosexual, trans-paired Biden supporting murderer being MAGA. That seems to have been just too much nonsense for the public to swallow, and Disney saw the writing on the wall.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Sat Sep 20, 2025 3:46 pmWhat I've heard is that the chairman of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission), who was appointed by Trump, exerted some kind of pressure (perhaps suggestively at least) on the media company hosting Kimmel's show to take it off the air. Unusual for them. Disney's about as Woke as any company can be, and has been pumping out a steady stream of Leftist propaganda for years now. Nothing ever stops them, it seems...but I think Kimmel was just not good enough. His ratings were already in the tank, and he'd made himself a public embarassment, and I think they felt they had to distance themselves from his stupidity and incompetence. He was just too obviously wrong.
That's why they didn't fire or censure him, but just "suspended" his show, I would say. But if the FCC, or anyone else, finally helped Disney see the light, then good for them. It sure was obvious to the rest of us, because people were voting with their remote controls already. Kimmel was an ideological stiff. We won't miss him.

Ridiculous. Getting something wrong isn't the same as lying. He obviously just got it wrong. He should have shut up until the facts were known. I wouldn't have thought that was a firing offence, but I don't watch American talk shows anyway. They could have simply told him to faux-apologise and state that he was wrong and that in fact the kller was woke as f***. Clearly something 'else' was at play behind the scenes.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Sat Sep 20, 2025 7:29 pmDisney pulled the plug, through the ABC network. I thought Ameruica prided itself on 'free speech'. Ooh. Another 'lie'. Imagine that. A whole country lying about having free speech
