Very Odd Ebay purchase

Post by Phil8659 »

Well, someone was selling a Sans Digital Box, 4 drive, SATA interface, for a very good price of $50.

Okay, I wanted to put a a JBOD, using 4 4tb drives on my workbench computer, as it already has a SATA interface card.

Well, the box was delivered today, but inside the box are 4 3TB NAS drives, hardly used, and it was home use. Each of those drives cost more used than what I paid for the Box alone.

Well, now I got 4 4t spare Hitachi drives, all of them tested perfect, which I bought for a box that was supposed to be empty.

Hell of a good deal.

Less than $60 dollars, shipping and tax, for a 12TB JBOD.

I'll make some calls and see if I can find a buyer to take those Hitachis off your hands. Meanwhile check in with Scott... he's got another assignment for you. They're decoding a ancient Filipino grammar matrix one the guys from dig team discovered a few days ago. Sandra will give you the details.

Too late, I slipped them into a Sans Digital USB 3 box that was not being used. It is just that I planed on 16 Tb of JBOD, and ended up with 28.

Both boxes are the same size, however, the 12tb drive is black, while the 16tb drive is silver, easy to tell them apart.

my Sans Digital Boxes are either 2, 4, 5, or 8, bay. So, I have an 16tb box that actually has 5 4tb drives, because it is a raid 5 array, any drive can go bad and it will rebuild, but it takes a long time to do so.

I have even saved work that I actually did on a TI-99, when I typed books in manually. I wrote a dictionary program on it when I typed in the King James, originally on 72 floppies. It helps me study, when I can get hands on text.

In 2019, I took a Rosewill 8 bay box, which works fine with RocketRaid, and made 2 x raid 5 of 2tb drives, which gave me 2 x raid 5 of 6tb, which means it became two raid backups of an ISO library I made of books and work, etc. I just powered it up to check it out, and it looks good. Each project, or collection is on ISO, and I can simply mount the ISO to copy files, keeping the original files safe.

Rosewill boxes look identical to Sans Digital, however they do not have any logo on them.

An advantage of using an 8 bay, and double raiding it, is that instead of connecting both sata cables to the box, one can connect only one and just fire up half the drives on the box. I am copying the ISO library to my bench computer, Dell Precision T3400, which I have about 11 tb of disk space on.

The above is how some spoke in a 'philosophy forum' of all places. So, you can just imagine how some people spoke in other places.

You need to buy better hand cream.

I just put MidiPlayer 6.5 on my project and workbench computers. I use the soundfont Musyng sound font. I listening to Disco now. Great shit. I listen on Sennheiser wireless headphones. I have a set on both computers.

In the early days of midi, I knew 2 things. Midi was going to get a lot better and copyright freaks would try to shut it down, so I downloaded tons of it.

Sure, a lot of it is shit, but a lot of it is fantastic. I knew soundfonts would be developed, it was a natural evolution.
