TV licence annoyance
TV licence annoyance
When I got in from shopping yesterday I found yet another letter from the TV licence people, threatening me with dire consequences, such as a £1000 fine, if I don't get one. I've told them countless times, since I moved into my flat eight years ago, that I don't have a TV and don't watch BBC iPlayer, but they still make me fill out an online form once a year and send random threatening letters, such as this one, at other times. They didn't even have the courtesy to send it in Braille, though I've requested it in the past, so I had to stick it through the scanner. Even at a reduced rate of 50%, which I'm entitled to, TV is so full of mindless rubbish and blatant propaganda, that I try and avoid it like the plague (except if I'm at my parents' house, or something), and would certainly never consider paying for the privilege. I think the license should be abolished entirely, and if anyone actually still wants to watch the BBC and turn their brains to mush, they can pay for it themselves.

sorry to hear about your trouble with the wonderful efficiencies of a socialized government...
I picked up on the Braille comment- does your computer "read" the comments aloud to you or is the text simply enlarged?
it would be nifty if your computer read each poster with a different voice

Re: TV licence annoyance
I have a screenreader that reads out the text. It doesn't give each poster a different voice, though I can change the voice settings at any time, and choose from a number of different options. Enlarging the text wouldn't make any difference to me.Impenitent wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 12:12 pm sorry to hear about your trouble with the wonderful efficiencies of a socialized government...

Tell those bloody wankers when they come by that you can't see a reason why you should get a license and that having a license is just something you don't ever see yourself doing, Maia. Wish them a good day and then don't see them to the door.
p.s. do you still have my reader voice set on Morgan Freeman?

I am sorry to hear that England has the same corporate intelligence as American politicians. Asking blind people to pay to watch the BBC should be in the joke section, just like politics.Maia wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 8:52 am When I got in from shopping yesterday I found yet another letter from the TV licence people, threatening me with dire consequences, such as a £1000 fine, if I don't get one. It is actually a sign of mankind still being in a state of evolution to become rational. Most of humanity actually like playing the role of Alpha Animal instead of actually believing in a unified humanity.
I just lump human intelligence as those who are too stupid to find their way out of a paper bag, and that is what grammar is today to most people, a paper bag they cannot reason their way out of.

Looking at the broader picture, my own view is that the BBC simply lacks vision, in continuing to rely on the licence fee for its funding, making them completely blind to the changing world around them. They have, essentially, painted themselves into a corner, and in being forced to compete on an equal footing, they'll be able to keep their eye on the ball and remain relevant. Otherwise, it's very much a case of out of sight, out of mind.

We only have to pay 50%, which makes a kind of perverse logic, I suppose.Phil8659 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 6:35 pmI am sorry to hear that England has the same corporate intelligence as American politicians. Incidentally, in the UK you have to get a TV licence to watch anything on TV, but the money just goes to fund the BBC, which seems grossly unfair.
Re: TV licence annoyance
What people do not realize, is that every government, which has the power to take from the people, that which has not been agreed upon, is simply an oppressive state, this means, that there really is no free country in this world.
All of this stems from simple illiteracy, the misuse of words which means it is not actually grammar, or as many would say, not-logical, but simply barbaric. As I said, it is easy to prove that mankind is still proto-linguistic and uncivilized. No one can do more, than afford a wild animal artifacts in the environment by which, if they choose, to learn from.

An increasing number of people are realising it now, and they're not happy.Phil8659 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 29, 2025 9:50 pmWhat people do not realize, is that every government, which has the power to take from the people, that which has not been agreed upon, is simply an oppressive state, this means, that there really is no free country in this world.

You prefer to get your rabid propaganda from Svetlana's bot farm. It has that extra xenophobic crunch you don't get from Auntie Beeb.

Why should everyone who has a TV be expected to fund the BBC?FlashDangerpants wrote: ↑Wed Jul 30, 2025 8:46 amYou prefer to get your rabid propaganda from Svetlana's bot farm. It has that extra xenophobic crunch you don't get from Auntie Beeb.
