I've been to Israel, on a school trip in 2009. It's actually an extremely diverse place, and you can hear a whole load of different languages being spoken everywhere. Notably Arabic and Russian, in addition to Hebrew and, of course, English.

Maybe there are some elements there who think like that, but as a society, Israel is secular. It's also an extremely fascinating place, full of history, and I would highly recommend a visit to anyone. I definitely wouldn't want to live there, though. Too hot, for a start off.

I'm certainly not going to defend the rigid, monotheistic religion of the Old Testament, but the Jews, nevertheless, have been highly successful as a people, in historical terms.
