It is accurate to say — Chomsky does say it in other places — that governing power-systems all over the world are régimes that must control their populations with public relations and propaganda as the primary tools. It is a question of degree, it would seem.

The public relations/propaganda system of the US (starting around the early 20th century) developed all the tools that are now employed everywhere (in degrees of course).

Is Dave Smith and the modern libertarian movement anti-American? No. We are anti-empire. This is a repeat of the Ron Paul vs. Rudy Giuliani 2008 presidential debate moment when Dr. Paul explains that Sept 11th was blowback for our consistent intervention in the middle east. Only a neocon would view an analysis of cause and effect as anti-Americanism. The media gives the public half of the story. "Here's what Putin did! Here's what Hamas did! History began on October 7th!" We simply offer the other half of the story. Does that remove agency from the rest of the world? No, the Pentagon, State Department and CIA do that when they overthrow elected leadership in foreign lands time and time again. The non-interventionist position IS the American position. The founders warned repeatedly about empire building and entangling alliances. If you were to resurrect George Washington and explain to him that America now has 800 foreign bases and $37 trillion in debt he would sound exactly like Dave Smith. Bring the troops home, close the bases, stop funding proxy wars. Did you guys read what we wrote!?

Would Douglas Murray call George Washington unamerican? He wouldn't have time to. George would have already asked Martha to go fetch his musket.
