So this one time, i was sent with a 22-caliber revolver to shoot a medium-sized black mixed breed dog huddled alone in the woods like it was sick and dying. I thought it was simple. Got kinda close for a headshot, but jerked the trigger and hit the dog, not in the head. It yelped and tried to weakly scamper off, and i fumbled with the gun to cock it as quick as i could, cursing god. It shook me up, man. I moved up to it quickly as it snarled at me, half crying, half scared to death. Shot it in the head from three feet, and it collapsed. That poor fuckin dog. Some white trash owner - this was in Deliverance land Virginia mountains - neglected him, and it was dying of heartworms or something, probably. May have even had rabies. Glazed eyes, mouth foaming, etc.
I even had a problem with killing fish that hadn't yet suffocated in the cooler.
Every time i cut the head off with one quick, sharp thrust of the filet knife, i saw in my head a hologram of the fish's spinal column, sending an incredibly painful pulse through every nerve... the fish, even as dumb as it is, crying out in silent pain before the lights go out.
