There's a youtube video of one of them being 'interviewed' by some sleazy white American man who kept referring to the charming ladyboy as 'she' and calling him a lady. The ladyboy repeatedly insisted (in a distinct male voice) 'I'm not a lady, I'm a ladyBOY'. They know exactly who they are and that they aren't women. It's the same with the Samoan fa'afafine. They would never dream of claiming to be women, or demand special pronouns, or encroach on women's rights.
