Runaway Train
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23hSJXiQ_xA
To stop the out-of-control runaway train, Manny said he had to make his own miracle by going out and around. He kept repeating it, out and around, or maybe it was up and around. However, he learned that to actually make the miracle and stop the runaway train of his life, he had to go through and not around. So he went through the broken windshield.

He's burying Swank in this scene who had hung herself the night before. The causality is complex though. She hung herself because Jones didn't want to marry her, but she only proposed to Jones because she was escorting those women with Jones....

^^^ end scene... Jones on his way back after the trip to Iowa after blowing all his money, believing he had a big bank note to be cashed (payment for the escort). Turned out the bank went bust and the bill isn't worth the paper it's printed on. Now he's drunk, broke and on his way to wherever he ends up....

This scene is copied from a famous Amercan painting:The Jolly Flatboatmen by George Bingham. Other movies have also set up scenes based on paintings (Terence Malick in Days of Heaven for example). It's an effective technuque. Here's a link to the painting:promethean75 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 11:57 am ^^^ end scene... Re: Favourite movie scenes
I have been outstandingly stoned for two days watching the whole LoTR movie series again, and i totally forgot how awesome it is. And so many scenes i had forgotten and so got to be excited about them all over again. Like when Oakenshield is trying to defend the gold after Smaug gets wasted and the dwarves take back the mountain... the five armies one. When the orcs almost got em and then Thorin's cousin from the Ironfoot (or whatever they're called) tribe comes rolling over the hill on a giant battle boar with a huge regiment of dwarven soldiers. When he prances out into the middle of the field on his armored pig with his glorious red braided beard, his bright eyes sparkling with a supressed fury and berserker rage about to be unleashed and threatens in a rich and gregarious irish accent to crack some orc skull if they don't clear the fuck out of there... bro, i almost lept out of my bed fully naked (i sleep naked) and grabbed my crossbow, i was so excited. Is that not the greatest scene in the whole series?

Oh... one thing i did not like was how brief the appearance of the dude who turns into a bear was. The skinshifter or whatever they're called... the dude with the cabin that the dwarves hid in.
In the battle of the five armies they show him dropping into the battle and turning into a bear, but that's it. No extended fight scenes with him or nothing. They shoulda shot that dude kickin orc ass for a least a minute. He's not a major character, but he's unique enough that he should have more screen time during a fight scene.

Re: Favourite movie scenes
Dain Ironfoot... that's Thorin's cousin's name. Youtube the scene and watch him roll up.
Why is he so awesome and what's that special personality trait that only the hard earthened dwarves possess? A steadfast strength so solid that it can only show itself in moments of (even) the worst and most violent conflicts in the form of an immovable force around which everything becomes a joke or only a minor inconvenience, at best. Only in the dwarf is such lofty arrogance appropriate and fitting. Dain trots out into the middle. A thousand orcs and elves poised with their weapons stand in silence.
"Good morning... how arrrre we all?! I have a wee proposition for ya.."
That's my fuckin guy right there. When Webster entered the word 'boss' into the dictionary, he put Dain's picture beside it.
