What are your plans for the spring equinox?

I imagine that Uluru, or Ayers Rock, is indeed a very special place. A place of great power. Perhaps a bit like Glastonbury Tor, or other such sacred hills, such as the Wrekin in Shropshire, which is slightly more local to me than Glastonbury, or even the Malverns, which I know very well. I would indeed like to visit Uluru one day, and, indeed, Australia in general. The sheer size of Australia is mind-boggling. I really don't fancy the flight, though, being a tad claustrophobic. Getting to Canada, another enormously big place, was bad enough, eight hours cooped up inside the plane.

Canada is larger than Australia, my Uncle over from England really enjoyed pointing that out to the Ozzies..it surprised me too - he travels to Canada mostly during winter to be with his Canadian girlfriend, lol. He's my mothers brother, eleven years my senior that travelled to Wales when I was four, he's hilarious - well, he laughs along with my sense of humour so that's just dandy.

Also, I know you love the winter so best if you do make the pilgrimage to Uluru that it be after April and before October..lots of lovely warm sunshine, just not extreme outside of those dates.

I'd be interested to hear your ideas about JAWS and accessing art sites. I was checking out some AI sites recently and their descriptions of images. Presumably, this is only going to get better, and probably very quickly, too, given how AI suddenly seems to be everywhere. Please feel free to email me, if you don't want to discuss it on the forum.

Yes, I like the winter, but not when it's windy or wet. I'd heard that Canada was supposed to be cold, but it wasn't when I was there. Definitely not the first time, anyway. In fact, it was really hot. Surpassed only, a few years later, when I went to Israel. That was almost literally unbearable, especially in Eilat.

I've been using screen readers since primary school, so it's just second nature.

For AI image descriptions, you might want to check out ChatGPT or Grok, for example. There are others, but I haven't tried them yet. Indeed, the latest versions of JAWS have it, too.

Yes I've been testing these AI models, not Grok though, my friend finds it useful for medical stuff. But certainly, I would not leave the art of a website such as mine to the discernment of AI - NO WAY!

AI is crap in that respect. No, I'd still insist on a human to describe the art piece...it's my opinion that AI is sound waves away from the ability to accurately describe an art piece. I was going to use the analogy of light years away but I think that's an exaggeration

It's other avenues that I want to explore, especially with any handling of a standard generic forum built on phpBB such as this one.

I need to test JAWS and would right now, if it weren't for their short test period prior to payment.

They sound the same. I can always go back and have something spelt out, of course, but wouldn't necessarily do so unless I felt it necessary for some reason.

Perhaps the simplest thing to do, for describing a piece of art, is to include a written description of it.

I get the feeling that JAWS has no voice inflections, is it pretty monotone and dull compared to a natural human reader?

Does JAWS allow input from your voice like "Skip this, move to next heading" stuff like that or is there any way you can tell it to skip with the keyboard - that long list that i think iambiuguous posted comes to mind that i queried you about.

It's what I've grown up with. JAWS has more options, but this is not always an advantage for a beginner.

It'll read some non-Roman alphabets, such as Greek, but not all, and not consistently either, apparently, unless you switch to that language. It won't do Runes, or Tolkien's Tengwar, or anything interesting like that. Unless there are some add-ons that I don't know about.

I was wondering how it would handle ASCII art. I'll explain. As you would know the words of the English language is made up of symbols that are alphabet letters that spell the words.

Well, ASCII which stands for: American Standard Code for Information Interchange allows for 256 characters including the alphabet. So once JAWS got to the art of a thumb that was made up of characters that are not alphabet characters, they are the same size on the screen as normal alphabet characters, but they can be anything like pound signs, percentage signs etc.. So the art of ASCII where I copied a thumbs up made out any of these 256 available characters, the characters are placed across the screen in such a way that people can see, here in this case a clenched hand with a thumbs up.

I've been using ASCII art in my sage music thread ever since Rick has prevented us from posting photo images. I'll only use it there from now on, because it must have been frustrating for you when JAWS came across the characters used to make up the image. In this case just a bunch of dots.

I just tested JAWS and for some reason I ended up with an electronic sounding voice and also at the same time a more normal human sounding voice, and then eventually a female voice - and they were all talking in tandem! I've shut it off for now will have to test it out during the week. If I work on the PC too late in the evening I have difficulty sleeping (* since I am not boozing too!)

- actually I think it might be Microsoft narrator that was the other two voices that chimed in for some reason, triggered by the JAWS software..
