Odd dream

I was at a school reunion, which I've only ever been to one of in real life, incidentally, and I was walking along a corridor and heard voices coming from a room. I recognised one of them as belonging to a girl I used to know, so went in and said hi. Two of them in there were smoking, which is obviously a very big no no, on school premises, and one of them offered me a fag, which I accepted. And just to be clear, I don't actually smoke. Almost as soon as I starting smoking it, though, we were caught, by the caretaker, who came in, confiscated the fags and told us to get out. Just as if were were back at school again, rather than adults.

And that's it really, nothing too convoluted. Does it have any particular meaning, I wonder? I thought I'd get it down in writing, anyway, before it slipped away, having had it less than an hour ago.

I don't know about dreams having any special meaning but I suppose thinking one is in "school" is a common one. I've had the school ones too. Maybe because school is such a formative time of life it tends to show up in our dreams quite a bit.

As far as getting caught smoking and getting into trouble, you bring up the fact that you're not that age anymore (and weren't that age in your dream maybe?). Maybe you feel like people around you sometimes treat you less than your age even though you are an adult. And if it is an annoyance or concern, maybe it's in your mind while you're dreaming. I've heard it speculated that dreaming is a process for the brain to do some internal maintenance with its neurons.

That's a good point actually, I hadn't thought of it in that way. I do still occasionally get people treating me like that.

I often dream about loved ones who have died, and they are always very much alive in my dreams. There doesn't seem to be any awareness from either of us that they have died. That seems odd. Why would something as profound as a loved one dying not register in the dream world?

I dream about my deceased mother since battling Parkinsons. In all of them she is younger and healthy (which is good, because I need to remember her in that state)

In fact in one of them we were having a dinner party in light of her actually making a full recovery.

Sometimes waking up after a dream like that is rather sad.

I had a friend who ended her own life some years ago and I often dreamt of her after that, with no hint that she was dead, for the most part. Except just one occasion, when she was all happy, but then, as I think I was waking up a bit, I suddenly stopped, and asked her, words to the effect of, Hang on, aren't you dead? To which she just laughed. I've also dreamt of my two grandparents on my Dad's side, both of whom I was with when they died, as if they were alive and well.

It just seems strange that we obviously know and remember these people when dreaming but don't know they have died. It's nearly always my grandparents, who I adored.

It definitely feels like loved ones are still living on, somewhere. And they're usually happy, too.

I've had recurring dreams that I'm in the presence of my grandparents and during the dream I know they are gone. The most prominent aspect of the dreams is me trying to tell myself that this can't be real because my grandparents aren't here.
