I live in the US and almost nothing is "free" or without a monetary cost here. We have to pay for food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, utilities, taxes and lot of other stuff. So I guess I don't understand how a person can live in contemporary society without money (unless maybe they're doing time in prison or something).

I mean, it would be ideal if we didn't need money but then it seems as though we'd probably have to rely on bartering or some form of exchange method for goods and services. At this point in the game, doing away with money seems unrealistic to me. I don't see how that can be done.

So how can a person in the US today live for very long without money? Our distant ancestors did but these days just about everything is considered private property. There's not much in the way of "commons" where people can practice hunting and gathering. At least it doesn't seem like it.
