Concerning the credit expansion, with the resulting debt burdening an increasingly smaller population, the government will certainly find people to take out more and larger loans. People could currently borrow a lot more already and in that way keep the credit expansion afloat.

For example, people could buy their groceries and pay their rent with a credit card, and roll over the resulting credit card debt, month by month. If everybody does that, it should keep the credit expansion afloat, even when the population is shrinking.
