Is taking Hallucinogenic drugs conducive to philosophical inquiry?
Are we truly philosophers if we do not analyse our own consciousness while under the influence of various drugs that are available to us?

I've heard they can cause insanity in the unlucky or if used too often. Is that what happened to you?

A horse walks into a bar and orders a beer.
The bartender says, “You’re in here every day. You might be an alcoholic”.
The horse says, “I don’t think I am,” and disappears.
It’s a joke about Descartes, but you don’t want to put him before the horse.

It was pretty good. Should be in the 'jokes' thread.

I couldn't sleep last night, I think I shouldn't have eaten the cheese I found when cleaning under the cooker.accelafine wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:05 pm I've heard they can cause insanity in the unlucky or if used too often.

Why would there be cheese 'under a cooker'? By 'cooker' do you mean stove? How does cheese get there?attofishpi wrote: ↑Sat Dec 07, 2024 1:42 amI couldn't sleep last night, I think I shouldn't have eaten the cheese I found when cleaning under the cooker.accelafine wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:05 pm I've heard they can cause insanity in the unlucky or if used too often.

Exactly I have no idea. Maybe it fell onto my foot and then somehow I must have banged my foot on the 'stove' and it flicked under the 'stove'?

Hallucinogens are merely catalysts to philosophical inquiry.attofishpi wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2024 9:55 pm Are we truly philosophers if we do not analyse our own consciousness while under the influence of various drugs that are available to us?
As such, hallucinogens are effective for those who did not have had the above experiences naturally and via various 'spiritual' practices but for philosophy, what is needed is critical thinking, rationality, lots of reading, reflection and thought experiments.AI wrote: Hallucinogens has potential benefits in certain contexts, such as
Enhanced creativity and problem-solving: Some individuals report increased creativity and novel insights after using hallucinogens.
Spiritual experiences: Hallucinogens can induce profound spiritual experiences, leading to feelings of interconnectedness and transcendence.
Psychological insights: Some people find that hallucinogens can facilitate introspection and self-reflection, leading to greater understanding of themselves and their emotions.

Hello, shoes
I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to stand on you again
Oh, wow!
What a horrible dream I just had!
I looked in the sky
Where an elephant's eye
Was looking at me
From a bubblegum tree
And all that I knew was
The hole in my shoe which
Was letting in water
(Letting in water)
Letting in water
Oh, no
What a really heavy bummer
I walked through a field
That just wasn't real
With one hundred tin soldiers
That stood at my shoulder
(Fascists)
And all that I knew was
The hole in my shoe which
Was letting in water
(Letting in water)
Letting in water

Wham!
Oh, no
What's happening
I climbed on the back of a giant anchovy
And flew off through a gap in the clouds
To a land where music was playing
Incredibly loudly
And everyone was really happy
And having a really good time
Except me
I started to fall
And suddenly woke
And the dew on the grass
Had soaked through my coat
And all that I knew was
The hole in my shoe which
Was letting in water
(Letting in water)
Letting in water
Oh, what an amazingly beautiful vibe
I think I'm gonna get in the bath with my shoes on
'Cause, like, it won't make any difference, right
Oh, wow!
Hey, I feel like I'm just, like, floating
Is anyone lighting a Joss stick?
I must be a pretty amazing guy, right
To have dreamed all this
Maybe it's 'cause I ate all that cheese I found
Under the cooker
Oh no, hang on
