Is there a God? If so, what is She like?

My verdict on the matter

Post by Gary Childress »

If there is a God, then what is the point of suffering, disease, strife and all that harms us? And if there is no God, then what is the point of anything? Either way is unsatisfactory.

Who says you need some point outside of yourself? Make your own point.

I just made my own point. You replied to it saying that I need to make my own point. That makes zero sense to me to tell me to do what I just did as though I hadn't thought of doing it. Had I not thought of doing it, I wouldn't have made my own point. So where does that leave us. I've made a point and you seem to disagree with the point I made. Now what?

You said either way is unsatisfactory. That means you are not satisfied with making your own point out of life. So.... Why?

Because when I do make my own point, people like you seem to disagree with it. Or are you agreeing with me that life is unsatisfactory?

I'm not disagreeing with the point you found in life. You haven't shared the point you found in life. Goofball.

You're equivocating a point in life (which you apparently don't have) to a point you made in a post on a philosophy forum. Disentangle those two things if you can brother.

Exactly 👍

Choose your poison.

If there’s a point to being alive..it’s a toxic positivity, in my opinion. What’s the point in being conscious living entity living your whole life knowing you are slowly dying in every moment. it’s about as stupid as it gets, totally pointless and meaningless af.

It’s like being super glued to the seat in the cinema. You’re watching the movie of your life, and figure out it’s a horror show that you cannot walk out of.

And according to Albert Camus: There is but one truly serious philosophical problem and that’s suicide.

Because there’s no one to kill except the fictional character that you have created. Namely your name.

These are very good points.

Very much worth pondering.

And then coming to a verdict that life for most sentient living organisms with a nervous system is unsatisfactory and these organisms just absolutely deserve better, either that or there should be nothing at all. This horrible suffering life shouldn’t be happening, but it is, and that really sucks.

I'm not sure if Camus was right about that. From what I can tell, the only truly serious philosophical problem in life is staying alive. And unfortunately, it appears that that is eventually impossible. So, as you say, we are chained to this seat in the horror flick. And it's getting more and more uncomfortable the older I get.

I can't disagree with something you didn't share. I might disagree with it after you share it.

Yes. So why did you say you're not disagreeing with the point I've found in life then? Wouldn't you need to know what point I've found in life first before not disagreeing with it?
