December 1 is 'International Phobia Awareness Day'.

We are all aware of the 'big-name ones' that get most of the publicity, but let's spare a thought for all our brothers and sisters out there who suffer in silence with lesser-known but no less debilitating phobias like these:

Canophobia: The irrational fear of can openers. Makes opening cans very difficult if not impossible.

Mowerphobia: The irrational fear of being seen mowing one's lawn. These poor souls are reduced to mowing their lawns at midnight, annoying their neighbours and risking all kinds of physical injuries.

Dactylphobia: The irrational fear of having one's toes seen by anyone. This can get hot in the summertime and be awkward when not showering alone.
The mere thought of a visit to a podiatrist will bring on a panic attack.
