Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
Susan Andrews parallels Taylor Swift with Aristotle and Socrates.

Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
interesting comparison... although you could do the same for almost any singer... (for some reason Cat Stevens comes to mind)
extrapolating unintended wisdom from poetry is not uncommon...
philosophers are where you find them

I read the article three times. (I may read it again.) I find Prof. Andrew's article unbelievable. Who would seriously listen to this young woman who is raking in the $$ (and doesn't give much away), who performs half naked and with great fanfare behind her (to distract from the fact that she can't sing), and who can't even sing. I prefer The Great Philosophers, ancient and some modern, who have helped me traverse life. (I even love that rascal Alan Watts! LOL -- who I have discovered late in life.)
Someone needs to write about why the world has been infected with Taylor Swift worship. smh There is something really wrong with it (I think).

Another spambot posting. Clever, isn't it - it seems to fit in with the conversation but in tiny letters after the link to the article was another link, to the spammy site that the bot was promoting. I've deleted that now and the original posting will disappear in a minute once I delete the spambot.hickmankay20 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 05, 2024 6:12 amA comparison I don't think is fair even though you have given correct evidence. Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
I have posted in various places over the past few years in response to...this or that vile opinion someone has brought forth: 'As that preeminent philosopher of our times has said, "haters will hate" '.
Mind you, I am a 61 yr old male who would struggle to name a single Taylor Swift song. I just looked up where I had heard this very denouncement, and it is her song Shake It Off[/b].
Glad to see the world coming around to the wit and wisdom of... Tay Tay.

In this case, I'd like to propose Jimmy Buffett as an existentialist philosopher as well. Margaritaville is an ode to the quest for freedom, happiness, and the meaning of life. Thanks to Jimmy Buffett, we can accept imperfection. Here's to him!Bellaterra66 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 3:23 pm I read the article three times. (I may read it again.) Ms. Swift has incorporated Philosophy Now forum comments, particularly comments concerning abortion, into her recent work. I have produced a Youtube video illustrating the details: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIooxLwSDRs
Ms. Swift’s official video (January 2023): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8DLofLM7No

Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
Artists have forever pulled the Wisdom from Philosophers, to utilize higher logic, arguments, rationales, that reify and strengthen their own pre-conceived beliefs and conclusions.
Midwits want a shortcut to what they 'feel' is Righteous. So they seek-out Philosophers to do their (rational) work for them.
It's the same with all other fields of study and performance: if I'm stuck in a chess position then I will go to Magnus Carlsen's performances, or Stockfish AI's performance, which is now readily available and public to the entire rest of Earth. It's less than 2 or 3 google searches away.

You are even more deranged than I thought. How about posting the song lyrics next to your odious comment and show us the 'similarities'?daniel j lavender wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 1:08 pm Ms. Swift has incorporated Philosophy Now forum comments, particularly comments concerning abortion, into her recent work. Does it seem organic? Or more like a reaction, perhaps a financially engineered response? The timing of these publications, post referenced forum comments, indicates the latter. There was no mention of Taylor Swift as philosopher prior to this.
The sudden association of Ms. Swift with philosophy should now make sense.
Is Ms. Swift truly a philosopher?
Genuine philosophers embrace philosophy for philosophy’s sake. Not merely as an instrument for revenue and revenge.

My man, the video you made is almost a year old, why are you only now telling us about this?! This is huge. This is shocking. This needs to be on every news channel asap.daniel j lavender wrote: ↑Thu Feb 13, 2025 1:08 pm Ms. Swift has incorporated Philosophy Now forum comments, particularly comments concerning abortion, into her recent work. I suspect there could be more going on in the background we don't yet know about, someone is using both you and Taylor Swift, but to what end? Have you felt lately that someone is watching your every move?
Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
I'm not implying agreement with Lavender. Taylor Swift likely has song-writers who write most of her songs. It wouldn't be a stretch to consider that one of those songwriters has, in the past, browsed a philosophy forum on a whim or two. More likely, though, is that Lavender is indeed a loony toon.

Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
But the only 'similarity' is the word 'feel' being used in the song and the word 'lavender'. He's completely insane. I have lavender in my garden. Gee, I suppose that means I was inspired to plant it because of 'Daniel J Lavender'. FFS.Wizard22 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 14, 2025 11:05 amI'm not implying agreement with Lavender. Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
This is so bad it must be written by AI. People compare THIS to Joni Mitchell? And it doesn't even have a melody. How much more American idiocracy dumbing-down can the world take?
Meet me at midnight
Starin' at the ceilin' with you
Oh, you don't ever say too much
And you don't really read into
My melancholia
I've been under scrutiny (yeah, oh, yeah)
You handle it beautifully (yeah, oh, yeah)
All this shit is new to me (yeah, oh, yeah)
I feel the lavender haze creepin' up on me
Surreal, I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal, the 1950s shit they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze
All they keep askin' me (all they keep askin' me)
Is if I'm gonna be your bride
The only kind of girl they see (only kind of girl they see)
Is a one-night or a wife
I find it dizzying (yeah, oh, yeah)
They're bringin' up my history (yeah, oh, yeah)
But you aren't even listening (yeah, oh, yeah)
(Ooh-whoa)
I feel the lavender haze creepin' up on me
Surreal, I'm damned if I do give a damn what people say
No deal, the 1950s shit they want from me
I just wanna stay in that lavender haze
That lavender haze
Talk your talk and go viral
I just need this love spiral
Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk (get it off my desk)
Talk your talk and go viral
I just need this love spiral
Get it off your chest
Get it off my desk
(Ooh-whoa)
I feel (I feel) the lavender haze creepin' up on me

Re: Taylor Swift: A Philosopher For Our Times
I agree with what you wrote in the PM, it confirms my suspicions too. Do you think that Taylor Swift is a willing double agent, or that they are using her without her knowledge?
(Also, be careful, anything you write on the internet is saved and analyzed, and they can backtrack your location. Unless you are extra careful.)
