Ok I just like hearing myself speak and write what I already know. I love the sound of my own echo don’t you?Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 6:35 pmIt seems odd that you asked the question...since you say you already knew the answer.Fairy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 6:28 pmThanks for telling me what I already know.Immanuel Can wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 5:09 pm
Note: Ummm...I think you meant "Christians," without the apostrophe, did you not? I'll straighten that out in my response. You might be able to fix that on page one, too...I don't know.
What the statement makes is fairly obvious, is it not? The ancient world was generally populated by polytheists, which means that they believed in multiple gods: Zeus, Baal, Asherah, Molech, Hermes, Set, Isis, Chemosh...gods of valleys and mountains, of water and love...all kinds of gods. Judaism appeared amid these, as a belief uniquely dedicated to the proposition that all these gods are false gods, and there is only one true God.
A more modern sense of the term "gods" has appeared recently. It understands "gods" not only as literal fictive objects of human reverence, but of a "god" referring to anything one makes the number 1 orientation point of their value system. In that more metaphorical sense, your money or your car could be your "god," or your house could be, or your relationship, or your own physical health and longevity, or travel, or security...or anything else that becomes the ultimate object of your reverence and attention.
So take the ancient sense, or take the modern one, and it's very clear what the passage means: don't have false gods, and don't make for yourself a god out of anything.![]()
Jesus Christ is not mentioned in that commandment. There would be no way anybody could interpret that as your question...even if it were in Standard English, and so possible to be sure we could understand.who the Jesus Christ is me?The "before" is the Hebrew word "עַל," meaning, "upon, above, or over" The choice of translation depends on the context. So perhaps a better translations would be, "You shall have no other gods above/over Me." And to answer your question, the "Me" there is clearly the Speaker/Writer, who is God.Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
But now I suppose you'll tell me you knew all that, too...and again, I'm left to wonder why you keep asking questions to which you later say you already knew the answer...![]()

Not really. It seems rather pointless, to me. As you say, if I "already know," what's the point of asking?Fairy wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 6:48 pmOk I just like hearing myself speak and write what I already know. I don't know of any other males on here who do that (or do you have something to confess Henry?) although Promethean has red flags sticking out of every inch of his 'body'. I don't think any female over the age of 12 would be safe around him.

He PM’d me one day saying he thought both of us were going to be banned for some reason, god knows what he meant by that. So he sent me his email address just in case we were both banned so that he wouldn’t lose contact with me. He certainly had me in his sights.

I only read a bit in the beginning of the drama. I've skipped over the descriptions since. I just know that Harbal has a good heart, from all the postings I've read.henry quirk wrote: ↑Thu Oct 10, 2024 2:41 pmWell, I don't know about all that.
