Re: What music are you listening to?
I relate to u now the story of one of my greatest accomplishments on guitar. Once upon a time long ago at 20 years old after having been shown the first couple chords of Dave Brubeck's Take Five four thousand feet above sea level in an Appalachian college town coffeeshop, i accidentally figured out the head while fiddling around one day while couch surfing and ended up being able to play both the rhythm and head (jazz slang for lead) rather well. It was my go-to song when armed with guitar and in the company of the jazz students and the local bluegrass band members that hung out in the only real coffee shop in the then very small town. If u could play around with Take Five, u could be considered with a degree of seriousness reserved only for the Appalachian literari of the cool music scene composed primarily of that handful of trustafarians, preppy intellectual jazz students and local dudes who were schooled in real bluegrass roots. Speed flat picking on acoustic so fast that it would offend even Dave Mustaine. I played a washboard with brushes in an improv one time with these guys in a vegan hippy restaurant that made the most delicious burritos. Burned a hole in the washboard trying to keep up in a double time version of The Tompkins Creek Shootout. Didn't make any money but food and drinks were free for the band members, how ever brief their participation in the band was.
Anyway i did a two track recording of Take Five when i had access to a recorder but lost the recording. One of the coolest things of the very very few songs or riffs i ever learned on guitar. Impressive for a musical illiterate like myself, but standard material for a jazz major. It's basically a walk down of the same chord formation but it sounds so good with that little lead over it.

You would need to be able to read music to a high level, unless you are a musical genius, but even that would only take you as far as the most basic of his works, unless you have a really good musical memory and can improvise. Bach lends itself to improvisation.promethean75 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 1:09 am I could learn some Bach on guitar if someone showed me but I don't have the patience or attention span to look at tabs.

Interesting that you mention Dave Brubeck, master improviser.

Some Bach on electric guitars. Sounds amazing (remembering that this was composed for ONE person playing an organ). Fantastic solos in this too.

I wouldn't have thought it possible, but I would like to see someone try a Bach fugue on anything other than a keyboard.promethean75 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2024 1:09 am I could learn some Bach on guitar if someone showed me but I don't have the patience or attention span to look at tabs.
Julian Bream does a pretty miraculous job here (not six part though). :

Why are you even listening to Bach, you buffoon? You have no clue what you're hearing or why it's even good (if it is). What you are is a reader's digest reading petite-bourgois pseudo-intellectual new Zealander and mock-philistine house wife who thinks she can be cultured and refined just by listening to Beethoven or whatever while researching the history and fundamental principles of wokism.
You don't even like it, veggies. Put the fuckin Bob Dylan or Cold Play back on the radio before you start thinking you're Hannah Arendt.

Seriously fuck off you pretentious fuck (who can play a little bit). BTW, your playing is horrible, just like your gate building. No depth of knowledge whatsoever.promethean75 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 01, 2024 8:31 pm Why are you even listening to Bach, you buffoon? You have no clue what you're hearing or why it's even good (if it is). "No depth of knowledge whatsoever."
You're saying i should read The Easy Guide To Basic Guitar Chords and Gate Building, then? I don't even know who has that book.
