Were humans just a mysterious presence before they knew conceptual language?
Say for example: if humans never developed the capacity to communicate via conceptual language would they have known anything about anything at all?
We all come into the world the same way, as a baby, innocently, and not-knowing anything at all, so isn’t that a clue to our real and true nature?
Discuss.

Re: Before humans knew language.
I’m currently watching “Love on the spectrum” on Netflix
It seems autistic people are as loving and as pure as the driven snow, like innocent children, they don’t seem to have any egos or inhibitions when it comes to sharing their affections for others. They do however, have a very sharp keen intuitive sense to know when they don’t like something or someone. And so they are very quick to back off immediately without feeling embarrassed or shamed by their abrupt behaviour. They are very well tuned into their intuition and senses more than someone who isn’t autistic.

no.
if you have met one person with autism, you have met one person with autism.
each is different and their positions on the spectrum vary as widely...
I've known some that would hit you just as soon as look at you...

I’ve worked with autistic children under 5 years old…some of them are very irritable and wildly aggressive, quite a challenge for their carers.
Re: Before humans knew language.
I think the definition of human includes the attribute of individual adaptiveness and cultural adaptiveness through learning from the environment. True, many animals species can be trained but as far as is known only humans can learn via symbolic systems.Fairy wrote: ↑Sun Sep 22, 2024 6:36 pm Were humans just a mysterious presence before they knew conceptual language?

Re: Before humans knew language.
In essence, the capacity for conceptual language greatly expands the human ability to understand and shape the world, but it’s not the sole avenue for awareness. Human nature, as you point out, is adaptive and complex, with both language and other forms of knowing playing essential roles.
