Re: Why did you choose your user name?
With me it’s a personal affirmation.
It was an impulse. I used to post concert promotions as micksings, and when I signed up to my first discussion group it occurred to me that the change of focus called for a change of handle; but only with the second part.
I like the double meaning: it works as both a disclaimer and a boast.

Hey Maia if u like greek mythology and canadian 70s prog rock, listen to Rush's album Hemispheres Cygnus-X1 Book 2: Hemispheres
It's about ancient civilization stuggling to find a balance between the dionysian and the apollonian parts of man's nature. For example if he parties too much and slacks off (dionysus) in the winter time, he'll freeze, so he needs some apollo in his life so he doesn't die like a reckless drunken dumbass.
Now this song is long as fuck Maia so make yourself a cuppa but u have to listen to the whole thing because it's an epic story.

For those not visually impaired, the two gentlemen on the album cover there are apollo and dionysus.

I'm sure I must have heard that, or at least part of it, before. It sounded familiar, anyway.promethean75 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 8:40 pm Hey Maia if u like greek mythology and canadian 70s prog rock, listen to Rush's album Hemispheres Cygnus-X1 Book 2: Hemispheres

I'm more into folk, in general, but don't mind a bit of prog, such as the Moody Blues, if you count them as prog. The one you linked reminded me, in part, of Mike Pinder's My Song.

Would a Truly Intelligent species 'lay waste to' so-called 'their environment'?Maia wrote: ↑Sat Sep 14, 2024 4:45 pmI'm suggesting that all species would do it, if they happened to find themselves in an environment with no natural or effective competition. That's how nature works.
If no, then just maybe the species known as 'human being' has not reached 'Truly intelligent' status, yet, in the days when this is being written.
But, if yes, then are you absolutely sure that a Truly Intelligent species would 'lay waste' to the one and only environment that 'they' had/have found "themselves" within?

Because that word does not have that many letters.

I've never suggested that humans are "truly intelligent", whatever that might mean. Humans are simply part of nature.
Nor did I say that nature only creates things that have effective competition. Clearly, it doesn't.

Also, if 'nature', supposedly, works by creating only things that have a so-called 'natural' or effective, competition, then does 'nature', itself, have a so-called 'natural competition' or an 'effective competition', itself?
I am just curios if you thought a Truly intelligent species would destroy the environment that it needed for their continual survival.
you were claiming that all species would do such a thing if they had no completion, right?
Why? What thing does not have effective competition?

I don't know if a truly intelligent species would destroy its own environment, because I don't know what a truly intelligent species is.
There is no doubt that humans have trashed their environment, turning the planet into a complete tip. But to claim that we can affect long term climate cycles is a typical example of human hubris, I think.

Some would say that germs, viruses, diseases, cancers, tidal waves, volcanoes, earthquakes, and/or meteorites for example are just some thing's that might be, create, or does have so-called 'effective or natural competition', to you human beings.
Okay.
Would, instead, an intelligent human being do 'that', which goes against what it wants and desires?
Okay, but I am not sure what this has to do with any thing that I have previously said, and written, here.

They might have been once, but we always seem to bounce back and become more numerous.
Are you not a human being yourself, then?
+++Okay.

Yes, I think it would be perfectly capable of doing so.
