Why did you choose your user name?

Post by Maia »

Maia, in Greek myth, is the eldest of the Pleiades, the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione, and her particular area of interest was growth and the fertility of the land. As a daughter of Atlas she was also one of the Atlantides, a group that includes the Pleiades and various others, by different mothers. The singular of Atlantides is Atlantis, literally daughter of Atlas, which reflects my great interest in stories of Atlantis and lost civilisations in general.

But there's more, and the name has a double meaning. In the works of Tolkien, the Maiar were a large group of lesser spiritual beings, many of which migrated to Middle-earth from the Undying Lands. The singular of Maiar is Maia.

I chose the name years ago when I first joined ILP.

What do the words 'the land' here refer to, exactly?

For is not 'the land' on earth just 'self-fertilizing', and was perfectly fertile, and productive? That was before human beings started using 'the land' for their own selfish and greedy monetary ways?

Or, do the words 'the land' here refer to 'the land' that is Wrongly and Falsely called, and claimed, as 'my land', only?

The land is the earth, which is full of life and natural abundance.

There was more 'life', and more 'natural abundance', on earth, until a greedy and selfish species was created, through evolution, which ended up causing the extinction of so much 'life', and the pollution and destruction of so much of that once 'natural abundance',

Sadly, that's true, but it's not the first time that a particular species has laid waste to its environment.

Yeah, what other species has laid waste to 'their environment'?

It's quite common when a new species has been introduced to an area.

So are you here suggesting that the reason human beings are killing off so many species and are polluting and destroying the earth is just because they were introduced to earth?

It's descriptive of how long it takes him to get to the fucking point.

Mine is just a character from a comic book I never finished drawing. Seeing as one of the other characters is called The Sticky Botty Monster, I think I went with the more polite option here.

I posted mine ealier (I swear) got a phone call but was certain I posted it..

here goes again then.

I wanted atto around 15 years ago I read how scientists had measured the shortest period of time as 100 attoseconds - 1 second in equivalence being equal to something like 300 billion years - it blew my socks off.

So, someone has atto apparently - so being a pisces and Christian and being into the concept of pi (close to my DOB) - in fact I met Will B in London the day that Stephen Hawking died, and the DOB of Einstein and was PI day 14/3 being 3.14xxx (2018)

Lovely piss up arvo

Ultimately I am a very small fish pie...hence... attofishpi

I'm suggesting that all species would do it, if they happened to find themselves in an environment with no natural or effective competition. That's how nature works.

When I joined I was reading "Secondhand Time" by Svetlana Alexievich. Alexievich is the first journalist to win the Nobel Prize for literature, and the book is an oral history of the Soviet Union, as told by people who lived through the Stalinist purges, the Great Patriotic War, and then the transformation to Russia and toward capitalism. It's an excellent book. So I just cribbed the name.
