Comrade, if you know what’s good for you, for this National Anthem your face must be Joyful, ‘specially while on camera.

In this video the Youth are the most naturally joyful and the old folks are doing their best, which is understandable, and cultural differences would explain why the big dude is rockin' like a kid.

Oh sure: we've been compensating with prosthetics for a long time.

But THism isn't about making up for loss. On the surface, it's, as I say, about making man better. The irony: first man has to be made less. So, really, improvement isn't the goal at all.

And neighbors sometimes tattled on each other...and then there was Stasi.

My point is not that any specific transhuman device/arrangement is the same as Stasi, but the implicit argument in your post is as if have protheses means there's no reason to be concerned about coming machine human hybridization.

Also with prosthese the idea was to best replace function. The first protheses were clunky, slowly moving to where we come closer to original function. We can generally track the steps, improvement and change by small degree, aimed at physical movment.

A lot of the transhuman stuff is vastly more initimate, which qualitative leaps, rather than gradual quantative steps. Direct computer/human interface with an insertion into the brain that inserts into the mind.

Of course transhumanism is not the only area with this kind of qualitative we are not mature enough to use these technologies issues: gm products and nanotech are both fields where toddleras are playing with matches.

when we have fully mapped and understand the brain, the merging of brain and machine may be accomplished...

which part of the brain is the mind... that may never be known (even if the mind is part of the brain)...

Two steps back, three steps forward.
