I'm surprised that video is still up. The IOC has been busy having it taken down all day. First the opening ceremony and now this disgusting debacle. They know they are wrong, otherwise why take it down?attofishpi wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 7:59 am How this is even normal is beyond me ----> perhaps Flashdangerpants will explain?

Re: The Olympics
Brando was in some movie where his character pretended to be in a wheel chair in order to charm the sympathies of a beautiful woman. I don’t remember the movie, but I remember that because of her attention he stood up, very shaky, and let her coax him into walking step by step into the bedroom, she walking backwards and he reaching out, one slow step at a time. He would say he couldn’t walk, and she kept telling him he could, and he pretended to be astonished that he could walk. Hilarious. That’s the only scene I remember, but he looked like that picture. One other thing, I think that's the movie where he said the word, "confidence man," with subdued horror, shock, and humour all at the same time, when he pretended as the character to not know.
Do they still have The Wheel Chair Olympics?
What if someone pretends to be handicapped in those Olympics and is not. That person could be the champ.

I can't see that there would be any advantage to pretending you are paraplegic at the paralympics.Walker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:11 pmBrando was in some movie where his character pretended to be in a wheel chair in order to charm the sympathies of a beautiful woman. I think the U.S. men's soccer team should play in the women's tournament. They might have a better chance.

No. But since they are losing 3-0 to Morocco, they might lose in the women's bracket.
Women can compete with men. They just need the good juice. I looked it up. All the women's world records in the sprints are from the 1980s, when they had the good stuff. Flo Jo in the 100 and 200, Koch (East Germany) in the 400 and Kraktoviliva (800m Czechia).
NO men's records in track stand from that era -- although the long jump, high jump, triple jump, discus and javelin records are all from before 2000. Of course all of the modern records are probably enhanced pharmaceutically, too, but improved drug testing limits the extent.
I guess we can't get away from gender politics on this forum. Of all the horrid things happening in the world, some woman winning a silver medal instead of a gold because she was beaten by Semenya seems one of the most trivial. Isn't the joy of sport supposed to be the goal of playing? I mean who cares if you finish first or second? Does anyone really want to hear the Star Spangled Banner one more time? (I'll grant that getting your head beaten in in boxing might be different.)

Let's just put gorillas in the men's sports. Gorillas who 'identify as human'. That would be crazy, right men? You wouldn't like that would you?

And then to say that women should be 'happy to lose because it's the 'participating that counts' ' isn't even worth a response. You don't get to tell women how they should feel.

Have you ever played sports? I have. I'm in the Heisman Club Hall io Fame for my athletic career -- I won Conference MVP in college, multiple state championships, and was named to the all-tournament team in the national championships while in high school
Do I have any of my trophies. No. They got lost along the way. I didn't care about them. Why would I?
One of my favorite athletic memories is of the neighborhood soccer games while I was in grad school. Three adult men (my brothers and I) participated; two mentally handicapped adult men; two aging women (my mother and Mrs. M.), and Kevin, Nicky, Robby, Lenny and occasionally other children. Gee. We seemed to be able to play and have a good time without whining about the advantages of age, gender, and mental acuity. In fact, Kevin M. (age 11) was probably the leading scorer -- he was always on my team opposed by my two brothers . Such enjoyment of pure play appears to be beyond your capabilities. I feel sorry for you. Have a good day.

Why would I give a shit about you or life? What on earth does any of that have to do with men in women's sports? Get lost.

Re: The Olympics
Woke, narcissistic, misogynistic man 'feels sorry' for a woman who stands up for women's rights because he has competed in sports (presumably against other men) and enjoyed it, then goes on to mansplain why women should be happy to compete against men because despite the truckloads of awards and trophies he has won, they meant NOTHING to him and in fact he somehow 'lost' them in the mists of time. Hmm. That's not patronising at all.
Indeed. I have won many Olympic gold medals, but they meant nothing to me (it was the participation that counted) and in fact I no longer have them because I accidentally put them out with the rubbish...

Champs anywhere get perks. Fact of life these days. If you're the best at anything, the money and the perks will follow, and I think many hope it will follow after mastering some arcane skill unassociated with productivity.accelafine wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:31 pmI can't see that there would be any advantage to pretending you are paraplegic at the paralympics.Walker wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 12:11 pmBrando was in some movie where his character pretended to be in a wheel chair in order to charm the sympathies of a beautiful woman. I didn't know that "women's rights" included the right to not compete with men. Gee. I thought women wanted to compete with men. I guess I was wrong.
One general point: the adage "If something is worth doing, it's worth doing well" is ridiculous. Sport is a perfect example of what the adage should state: "If something is worth doing, it's worth doing badly." If we enjoy play it is worth doing whether we win or lose,

You are insane. It's not all about winning or losing, it's also about safety and staying alive. Women are getting seriously injured by cheating male perverts in sports. Are you suggesting that women should stop doing sport altogether to avoid these misogynistic, cheating, perverted thugs? Stay at home and cook for woman-hating wankers like you?Alexiev wrote: ↑Sat Aug 03, 2024 2:39 pmWaah! Waah! "No crying in baseball!"
