A.I.s making videos
I've noticed for a few years a trend in videos where the use of English is odd. A lot of movie plot summary videos are like this on youtube. Often the speakers sound like native speakers but they use some odd grammatical constructions and also odd word choices. Here's a video from facebook with what sounds like a computer contructed vocal track and also odd English. I've wondered for a while if they are testing out A.I.s like this.

It is a possibility we have to consider. The plot thickens

Some certainly think it's on the horizon.

There seem to be apps.

The ones in youtube are fairly sophisticated. They are choosing clips (or there is a human AI team), and picking what parts to describe (out of millions of possible details and then they have the voice overs.
I have no idea if that can be handled by AIs alone.
I also notice that the quality has improved in recent years. When I search for movie summary videos almost only recent ones come up. The grammar and word choices are not so odd, even if there is something off.

Those videos use AI voices, not AI text. They probably write the script themselves, which is why they suck. Even freely available AIs could write a more grammatically correct script very easily.Iwannaplato wrote: ↑Fri Feb 24, 2023 11:12 pm I've noticed for a few years a trend in videos where the use of English is odd. They as in, the makers of these videos (probably Indians would be my guess - from India, not native americans)Iwannaplato wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:28 pmWho is the they in the second sentence. The second 'they' refers to the scripts and/or videos, the scripts suck, the videos suck.

Re: A.I.s making videos
I started noticing these maybe a year and a half ago. At first I found it baffling. Some of them sound exactly like native speakers of English, but they make errors no native speaker would make. It felt sort of creepy, like media were being taken over by something not quite human. And, well, that's what's happening.Flannel Jesus wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:41 pmThey as in, the makers of these videos (probably Indians would be my guess - from India, not native americans)Iwannaplato wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:28 pmWho is the they in the second sentence.
