What's your favorite verse from a song?

Pilgrim
Eric Clapton

And how do I choose and where do I draw the line
Between truth and necessary pain?
And how do I know and where do I get my belief
That things will be all right again?

_______
So she took her love for to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me? Will you be my love?
Among the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
Fields of Gold

Once that you've decided on a killing
First you make a stone of your heart
If you find that your hands are still willing
Then you can turn a murder into art

What is it with Sting? He's hardly Bob Dylan. Sting is a most unintereSTING song writer, bordering on coma-inducing.

"What is it with Sting? He's hardly Bob Dylan"
And thank god for that. one Bob Dylan is enough
Sting's solo stuff got lame but The Police were decent.

So Americans don't appreciate Bob Dylan. How 'surprising'.promethean75 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 19, 2024 10:27 am "What is it with Sting? He's hardly Bob Dylan"

One of my favourite Bob Dylan songs/poems.
Oh I'm sailin' away my own true love
I'm sailin' away in the morning
Is there something I can send you from across the sea
From the place that I'll be landing ?
No, there's nothin' you can send me, my own true love
There's nothin' I wish to be ownin'
Just carry yourself back to me unspoiled
From across that lonesome ocean.
Oh, but I just thought you might want something fine
Made of silver or of golden
Either from the mountains of Madrid
Or from the coast of Barcelona ?
Oh, but if I had the stars from the darkest night
And the diamonds from the deepest ocean
I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss
For that's all I'm wishin' to be ownin'.
That I might be gone a long time
And it's only that I'm askin'
Is there something I can send you to remember me by
To make your time more easy passin' ?
Oh, how can, how can you ask me again
It only brings me sorrow
The same thing I want from you today
I would want again tomorrow.
I got a letter on a lonesome day
It was from her ship a-sailin'
Saying I don't know when I'll be comin' back again
It depends on how I'm a-feelin'.
Well, if you, my love, must think that-a-way
I'm sure your mind is roamin'
I'm sure your thoughts are not with me
But with the country to where you're goin'.
So take heed, take heed of the western wind
Take heed of the stormy weather
And yes, there's something you can send back to me
Spanish boots of Spanish leather.
But the melody too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1KxthvX1Ms

Re: What's your favorite verse from a song?
Hard to choose a favourite:
I'm going back to church tonight
Just like back when I was eight
But I don't mean to pray
I'm going to nick a collection plate
I've got nothing against church
Or any people who go there
And show their plain ignorance
And don't understand
A congregation at weekends won't change their behaviour
So many people are weak
And have to seek answers from pedlars of hope
I should know, I used to go there myself
That's until the day I became anti-pope
It's gonna be fun tonight
Spreading news around the town
That the vicars are transvestites
With a fetish for robes and gowns
Religion doesn't mean a thing
It's just another way of being right wing
I think sex films are okay
I don't dig that pope, no way

Bar and Grill
Joni Mitchell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d0t5F2Si5M
Three waitresses all wearing
Black diamond earrings
Talking about zombies
and Singapore slings
No trouble in their faces
Not one anxious voice
None of the crazy you get
From too much choice
The thumb and the satchel
Or the rented Rolls-Royce
And you think she knows something
By the second refill
You think she's enlightened
As she totals your bill
You say "show me the way
To Barangrill"
Well some say it's in service
They say "humble makes pure"
(The link tells the rest of the story)

I Burn For You
Sting
This was a pretty good movie about how he collaborated with some good musicians during a jazzy period. Good finish.

_______
They don't get much better than this...
When you get caught between the Moon and New York City
I know it's crazy, but it's true
If you get caught between the Moon and New York City
The best that you can do (the best that you can do)
The best that you can do is fall in love
...from "Arthur's Theme" by Christopher Cross
Here is a beautiful live performance of that song...
