Well in my view, significance is a subjective term, thus there needs to be an observer to "give" something that description. Thus the vastness of the universe is irrelevant to most of the individuals who grant that label, as they perceive themselves to exist within a much smaller environment. Of course, one can stipulate that the label must be judged relative to the universe, which is a common psychological "trick" to encourage the overly anxious to relax through broadening their scope. Elementary stuff in that field.
