I did it again. I swear to god i don't know how to do this shit. I just gave a quote to a customer for a 12x12 deck platform to put one of those metal gazebo kits on, and she jumped at the price so fast, it had to mean she was expecting to pay waaaay more than what I'm chargin. So i called her back and made up some bullshit about having to add a girder becuz of code, and raised my price a few hundred. And she's still like 'oh no problem'.

I'm too honest for this shit man. I demand that the free market be abolished and replaced by a planned economy organized and run by the proletariat in which the value of labor is determined democratically on the basis of merit.

How does making up some bullshit about having to add a girder to her deck make you "too honest"? Yer a bloody scoundrel.

Even with that lie my construction karma is flawless. I couldn't tell u how many times my estimates have been so low that other contractors laugh at em when I tell em.

But now here's the problem; what is the 'proper' price for work x? There is no proper price. It's a negotiation between seller and buyer.

I am putting a girder in so technically I didn't lie. I didn't have to, but I am becuz it allows me to use 2x6 joists instead of 2x8, which are more expensive.

So for the last two years I've been doing a lot of work for a guy who runs a restaurant with his girlfriend. I did some siding replacement, interior trim, fixed a roof leak, etc., at the restaurant. Got to know all the staff pretty well becuz I was there often working. Following that the guy had me replace some windows at his house. Through him i met my (now history) pot dealer.

I'm at the dealer's house and we're arguing over what he's charging me for some indica vape cartridges. Finally he snaps and says get the fuck off my property yada yada. So i start pullin down the driveway. His white trash wife comes runin out and i hear her scream 'you're sick!' and he starts hollerin 'you're gonna burn in hell. Fire, mother fucker!'

Now this is not something u say when u have an argument over the price of a cartridge. No. This is something u say when u think someone's a pedophile.

It took everything I had not to kill em both right there.

Just as i thought all along; the guy at the restaurant looked me up and saw me on the SO registry. Told everybody. We're talking like fifteen people. They're all a big redneck click related to each other, etc.

For two years. And I was always suspicious that he may have done that becuz of the way everybody interacted with me. Contemptous af. Standoffish.

Now it never crossed his mind to ask me about the charges, and i certainly wouldn't ever offer this information becuz what if he didn't know, and now he does becuz I told him. This is what I live with.

Lol. Imagine being around people for two years who think of u as the lowest scum on the earth. And imagine being superior in every way to those people who think you're scum. Define irony.

In any case, every time this happens (and it's happened before), an angel loses its wings and the state goes further into my pocket.

Two fuckin years I'm hanging out with people who think I'm a fuckin child molester. Define alienation.

RE: Your sex registry woes. Maybe you can lobby to have the details on the public registry actually detail the crime (since you can't ever be wiped from it, which is ridiculous). So in your case could have "indecent exposure to a group of minors". If I read that about someone I got to know, I would just dismiss it as..ah, probably was off his tits drunk or stoned and got his John Thomas out - no big deal.

Figure out what the cost is in your jurisdiction to change your name to something you can live with that is incredibly common, then raise your next bid by that amount. Then shave your head and grow a beard (assuming you're not bald with a beard).

I found a fella to help me pull the canvas top over this thing and this guy did it for free. I tried to pay em but he wouldn't take it. Can u believe that? What a nice guy. Old dude with a contractor's license who has a little handyman business. He used to build houses when he was younger.
