cancel culture

Post by Advocate »

No one in their right mind would ever agree that their entire life, public and private, would become a business interest of the corporation they work for Unless it was a lesser evil than say starving.

Meanwhile, no ethical company would want to treat it's employees like so much fodder, to be discarded at will if any shred of controversy arises, regardless of whether it's work related and regardless of whether it is verified or meaningful.

Meanwhile, no legitimate government would let employers invade the private lives of citizens so thoroughly.

I don't blame businesses in this situation.

The problem is the over-the-top, activism-eager moralizing that we've led a portion of society to, and in the context of a capitalist economy.

Businesses are making the decisions they're making for survival purposes given the above. In a different context, they'd not care what people were doing on their own time. We need to fix the problems--that moralizing/activist culture and a capitalist economy.

How do you propose to fix it without eroding freedom of association?

That association is governed by market dynamics and The Market is never really free. Government's job is to look out for the good of every citizen's individual interests, not just the majority and the least that can mean is to not allow them to be subsumed without meaningful consent.

But the government is largely formed by self-organizing processes. Those who are most wronged tend to gang up and fight for The Cause.

That IS freedom of association. What if the people have freely associated to oppose the government?

Who determines whether the government is "legitimate"? Because if the government is illigitimate then even a violent coup is justifiable.

Some people really need cancelling..

As Trump tries to cancel the USA by instructing the GOP to shut down government, NY judges find Trump guilty of yet another crime. Trump found guilty of fraud by lying about his company's net worth to the tune of billions.

It seem to me that Trump is in need of cancelling.

The hatred from wonkerdom towards Trump is palpable and completely irrational. What is he? A raper of puppies? He's a frigging property tycoon. They wheel and deal. Big money is a big yawn. No one cares.

Everyone gets to decide that, because if the government isn't looking out for their best interests, the government won't even know. A legitimate government, on the other hand, will be ready, willing, and able to explain to every individual exactly why the decisions are made the way they are, by necessity, and how it fits their best interests, as backed by logical if not empirical evidence. A legitimate government always knows exactly why it's doing what it's doing and will always have accounted for all relevant variables.

Cancel culture is officially canceled for now. The world is under construction. Please stay tuned. Don't worry folks, there will be trees and other places soon. We just have to figure out how to get them there.

Do you define property tycoons as those who declare bankruptcy?

No, it should have to do with money. Like when they fire you if they can replace you with a cheaper worker, perhaps younger or foreign. Or when you exercise free speech while on corporate property and often when not. Or when you don't smile enough. Or when some hedge fund does a takeover and can make short term gains by downsizing (your ass). We should go back to the 50s when you could only be fired for not being patriotic in the right ways. Or for seeming to be or being gay. Of if you were 'fast' as a woman. Or, shit, if you didn't want to wear a tie. Those were the days of freedom, when corporations kept their hands in their own pockets and only focused on how well you did the job.
