The Game of Philosophy
The Game of Philosophy
Philosophy is a language game where the scientists construct our Origin story through blind faith in the scientific method; and the Skeptics deconstruct it.
It is a game where we design our collective consciousness through adding to and removing from it. Our shared meaning and memory as humans.
Science is the act of acquiring memories and constructing stories. The story of spacetime. The Big Bang
Skepticism is the act of erasing memories and decoustructing stories. Entropy.
Skepticism is the act of memory corruption. Erasing our memories. Making us doubt the origin.

In the limit science beomes Religion and skepticism becomes Philosophy.

Interesting statements. I've highlighted in red and underlined the parts that seem to call the most attention from me. I'm not sure what to make of those things but I suppose it's possible that more will be fleshed out over time. Please keep posting! I suppose I have nothing better to do than to read your posts. I can't guarantee I'll see all of them. I might miss more or less of the next ones. But, for now at least, it's not irritating--at least not to me.Skepdick wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:34 pm Philosophy is a language game where the scientists construct our Origin story through blind faith in the scientific method; and the Skeptics deconstruct it.

It won't help.
Yes, it can be interesting to see how people can string a bunch of nonsense together, imagining that it means something.
I had hopes for this topic based on the title, but the OP is pretty much meaningless made-up stuff.
The 'game of philosophy' on this forum typically seems like playing/testing to see 'what can get through' the human wall of critics. But there's not often much agreement because everyone has their own perspective -- and that alone should perhaps call into question absolutist claims.

I feel your frustration. I wish I had coping techniques for frustration that I could share. I mean, my usual coping technique when I get frustrated is to complain in some way shape, or form that won't bring me a lot of grief. But it's difficult to do that anymore. I've tried complaining to myself by muttering to myself where no one can hear but that doesn't seem to change anything in a good way either.Yes, it can be interesting to see how people can string a bunch of nonsense together, imagining that it means something.
I don't think I'll ever get out of this world alive.

You exist right now at this point in spacetime as a result of the entirety of history.
That is a tautology. And a tautology is necessarily true irrespective of what anybody thinks.
How much more "absolute" do you want? You can question it.... Go right ahead.
You exist right now at this point in spacetime as a result of the entirety of history. Questioning whether the previous sentence is absolutely true.
Re: The Game of Philosophy
I don't really have any frustration in regard to that, Gary.
Well, that can be fun... or not. As I've said before (which seems to piss you off), I think we need to use tools sometimes, to help us along. Our habitual 'thinking' may be getting in the way. Tools can help us to step beyond wherever we are -- even if we can't imagine anything else. There are LOTS of tools for all kinds of mental states.Gary Childress wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 4:24 pmI wish I had coping techniques for frustration that I could share. Re: The Game of Philosophy
No, it's not. Two people can agree on the meaning of something while still having different perceptions of, and reasons for arriving at, that meaning -- and the shared meaning does not equate to truth, nor is it guaranteed to last.
Re: The Game of Philosophy
Q.E.D
yes it does.
This sentence starts with the letter 'T'.
And you know exactly what that means and why it's true; and why that's the case whether anybody believes it to be so or not.
Tired of skeptics, tired tired tired of skeptics!
Fucking amateurs, every single one of them.
Re: The Game of Philosophy
What the fuck is wrong with you? Seriously, just tell us.
You are living in a bubble in your head, and I am not in there with you.
You're the dopiest amateur on this forum.
Re: The Game of Philosophy
Absolutely nothing. If you are going to start off with faulty presuppositions, this will make the dialogue painful.
Yes, you are. In that exact same bubble as all of us. How is it that two humans who are not even 100 years old, part of world that has nobody older than 130 alive, living on a planet that's 4.5 billion years old remember something which happened 13.8 years ago?
Whose memory is this? It ain't mine. Or yours.
And it has to be a memory because I don't see the "past" or "future" anywhere? All I see is now. Itls always now.

I'd rather be an ameteur amongst proffessional idiots.

It is said, and it is true, there are as many definitions of 'what is philosophy' as the number of people who strive to define or live it.Skepdick wrote: ↑Fri Sep 22, 2023 1:34 pm Philosophy is a language game where the scientists construct our Origin story through blind faith in the scientific method; and the Skeptics deconstruct it.

Within the millions of definition, there is a 'meta' theme and essence to all the definitions of 'what is philosophy' i.e. philosophy-proper is a strategic tool for continuous improvements to facilitate humans to optimize their [and of humanity's] well-being and flourishing.
Philosophy is analogous to the function of a CEO managing and overseeing the various sub-functions of an organization.
Science is 'to know', linguistic to communicate, Ethics and Morality is the 'how to act'.
Skepticism [as with logic, pragmatism and other subsets 'isms'] are necessary sub-tools of philosophy-proper.
Philosophical realism an evolutionary default whilst necessary at the primal and common sense level need to be overseen by skepticism [one of the many ANTI-philosophical_realisms].

That sounds like a false equivalence to me. And I don't like liars. Will Bouwman wrote: ↑Sun Sep 24, 2023 9:03 am That's your story, and as I say, philosophy is fundamentally story telling. Welcome aboard.
Stories don't self-modify themselves.
Computational theories do.
