I've never liked Trump, perhaps even detested him. And this reaction arose long before he entered politics.
I do think the media have treated him in a way they do any candidate that must be treated as beyond the pale. They simply cannot give him credit for anything, even when his policies mesh with leftist politics or common sense. Kudos to Noam Chomsky for managing to set aside team criteria and publically compliment Trump for things he said about what needed to be done in the Ukraine. This is impossible for most people with any media access on either the left or right.
Trump view language differently, for good and for ill. He sees language use as function. He has a goal so he says whatever in the moment that will move things closer, or he thinks they will move closer, to what he wants. It's negotiation, sales, interrogation type language use. I don't think he is a real alternative. Whether he's in with those pulling the strings or he's just another billionaire who doesn't really give a shit about normal people, he's not our friend. He makes noises to make members of the right who dislike the bulk of republicans think he's a real alternative - sometimes. But he's not a real alternative.

I can't speak for the humans on the street on this being an american expat outside of the US during the whole Trump political era. But I can see far to many RW pundits, both semi-mainstream and out of mainstream who seem to take Trump as a real alternative. And I find that sad.

Sure. Such an observation might lead them to ask why are a great many ORANGE MAN voters are sayin' Fuck You to the powers that be? They might ask why are these voters not seeking a true alternative?

They don't ask becuz they won't like the answer.

Simply: these voters have voted harder over and over and it got them nowhere. They have no faith in the system except as a waning bulwark against the very folks who are supposed to represent them. They see no alternatives. Trump is sugar in the enemy's gas tank for these voters. They don't care about the man or his fitness for office. He's a Big Middie Finger. And while ORANGE MAN takes heat and riles up the enemy, the enemy is largely leavin' these voters alone.

You tubers interviewing people is one source. I mean, unless these people in the street are all pretending as part of their fuck you that they really like trump.

Me: In my work, I cover 8 different parishes (Louisiana counties) in the course of a month. I talk to, and am privy to, lots of conversations. I have unvetted access to a whole whack of folks and their thinkin'. It's anecdotal, yes, so you don't have to take my word for it or pay me any mind. All I can say is: a great many folks think of ORANGE MAN as their Fuck You.

Now, I gotta get movin'. I have to do sumthin' I don't wanna do, sumthin' clearly at odds with my desires but that I'm gonna do anyway.

The governing systems DID need to be shaken... although we shouldn't have to personally become infected with the virus of delusion and extremism to do it. Then again, maybe the epidemic spread of that mind-rotting virus was the only way to reveal the true sickness of the government representatives who are not immune to it.

The politics of extremism is breaking apart the country. The Supreme Court has now lost its credibility by reversing its own ruling (Roe v. Wade) from 50 years ago, and States who seek to impose such extremism on moderate people are going to start losing those people. Do we really have to get to the point where moderate states end up with the majority of population, in order to make our diversity and voting power clear?

All of the dishonest games that involve the electoral college and redrawing voter districting maps in order to skew outcomes will surely run out of options at some point. And the government is full of too many old fucks.

My hope is that the disastrous fallout from all of the delusional extremism that has infected every branch of government will lead to a quantum leap forward that finally honors our ever-evolving nature. Perhaps the Republican Party will collapse from its overdose of delusional extremism, and Biden will be the last of the old presidents, and we can usher in a new era of more accurate representation of the diverse people in the country. Hopefully we will have learned our lessons from the idiocy of extremism, and we'll 'grow up' a bit more.

If at all possible, we should not fight each other. Seeing each other as enemies is exactly what feeds and supports the government's power games at our expense.
