Re: Christianity
Political agitator executed by the Romans. May not have even existed and could just be a pseudonym (in the way it's suspected that Plato used Socrates) for the authors of the books that involve him in the new testament.

Re: Christianity
Oi! Henry said I start (and I was off to bed..)
Well, first let's consider God.
Assuming God exists and is capable of being a personable God, indeed a God capable of providing EVERYONE with clear evidence of its existence (and indeed capability to within our reality), WHY does it insist on FAITH?
Reasonable answers please?

Wait a minute. At what time is this convo actually occurring? Your time or my time? But how can u or I be part of something that is happening at two different times?

..not a reasonable response to my question, but what would I expect from someone that clock_wise lives "down under".promethean75 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 1:48 pm Bro I just got up where the fuck do u live?

(I'm off to bed - I expect everyone that considers themselves worthy of a philosophy forum to have their 'reasonable answers' by tomorrow - sum 1s time).

"WHY does it insist on FAITH?"
becuz u can't be compelled by any proof that god exists becuz if u were, u wouldn't be able to decide to believe god exists since u would have indisputable proof. Hence, you'd not be choosing to believe by your own freewill.

As deist's view: beuz man is a free will. God, plunking Himself down in the middle of things, might screw that pooch. Also, I don't think faith is a requirement.attofishpi wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 1:45 pm Oi! Henry said I start (and I was off to bed..)

Re: Christianity
Now of course the whole exercise there relies on and is founded on the nonsensical concept of freewill, so it's all bunk even tho it's kinda interesting.
One goes 'ah! I see why god doesn't prove he exists now', and is so startled by how clever this is (what god has done here), he reasons that something so clever couldn't happen unless god existed.
Deists on the other hand don't believe god is personable, so would deny any clever set up as such, calling freewill simply part of god's indifferent design of things.

You’ve been somewhat absent, Atto, and have not well or closely followed the intellectual and theological shifts of the last 100-125 years.attofishpi wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 1:45 pm Assuming God exists and is capable of being a personable God, indeed a God capable of providing EVERYONE with clear evidence of its existence (and indeed capability to within our reality), WHY does it insist on FAITH?
*God died* as a force or power as it had been conceived. That god went absent. In my view you have not really encountered yet this difficult fact. God is real to you on a totally personal and subjective plane. And because you are absolutely outlandish, and hardly a Christian in any accepted or traditional sense, your “religion” is an example of what has occurred in that roughly 100 year period.
The god you are involved with, mediated by “Sage”, is a religio-psychological and also artistic religious mode. Possibly more alchemical in the sense of how CG Jung approached, studied and practiced a spiritual-psychological modality. CG Jung had his mediator too: Philemon. And interaction with this “being” was a huge part of his life-process.
The point? In you it has all gone internal. It seems to be your self dealing with Self (perhaps as Atman is conceived by the Vedics). And what is that? It seems to me that it is nearly impossible to define.
What is the “intelligence” that speaks to us in those odd and special dreams so replete with levels of concentrated meaning? Is that “God” or the “Self” and where is it located? What is its purpose or intentions in relationship to us?
Now, you will here feel stimulated by the at-tention to launch into vast explanations and defenses won’t U?
Have at it ….

Re: Christianity
Absolutely. Also, there would be loads of problems includng everyone demanding the level of protection heaven (on Earth) offers, no cancer, no broken bones – thus no need for doctors and reseearchers etc etc..henry quirk wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:07 pmAs deist's view: beuz man is a free will. To be honest there are loads of reasons I think are reasonable.
A requirement for what? (In hindsight, I wish I had used Y God leaves so much doubt)henry quirk wrote: Also, I don't think faith is a requirement.

Why would I bother when I am at the source, the knowledge of God’s existence?Alexis Jacobi wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:49 pmYou’ve been somewhat absent, Atto, and have not well or closely followed the intellectual and theological shifts of the last 100-125 years.attofishpi wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 1:45 pm Assuming God exists and is capable of being a personable God, indeed a God capable of providing EVERYONE with clear evidence of its existence (and indeed capability to within our reality), WHY does it insist on FAITH?
I was probably around 100 years ago, reading the same bah bah sheep “intellectual” ramblings attempting to deny my path to the one that is the guiding light…because they like you consider yourselves “intellectual”. You cannot see through the vague and often irrational parts of scripture.
Nah. I thought some with such a big ego, and professes their ‘intellect’ so much would understand a hypothetical scenario they are being questioned about. As Jung insisted, you need your ego adjusted.Alexis Jacobi wrote: ↑Tue Aug 22, 2023 2:49 pm Now, you will here feel stimulated by the at-tention to launch into vast explanations and defenses won’t U?

At-tention? you’re not very good at this, interogatting God’s LOGIC SYSTEM!!
