R.I.P.

Post by Harbal »

I have just heard that Peter Kropotkin died peacefully in his sleep this afternoon. His wife said that she was glad she was there at the end, and wouldn't have missed it for the world. I'm sure the whole forum will join me in extending our sincere congratulations to his family and friends.

Farewell, Kropotkin.

Well, it could be that AI algorithms have gotten better? Who knows?

¯\_(1,0)_/¯

In any case, there's a reason why many are afraid of AI. Heck, sometimes we're afraid of each other! Should we not be?!

Why are we afraid of each other, and of AI ?

I don't know. Should we never be afraid of each other?

Only if there was something about the other that is frightening, but what would that be?

I don't know. Ask a Saudi civilian who flies a jet into the side of a skyscraper. Ask a guy (who was drafted into the military by his leaders) who pulls the trigger at Mai Lai when civilians get pissed off at strangers who have taken over leadership of their country. There is real danger out there. Why do you think there have been calls for the military to stop using AI for warfare? Why do you think there was an open letter signed by some of the greatest minds in contemporary science calling for a freeze on the development of an AI chatbot that is so clever it can tell a random person asking it a question about how to build a bomb how to actually build one? I'm sorry to rain on the parade but that seems to be my goal in life for whatever reason. I have no idea why, but that's become my mission. Maybe God is sending us a warning or maybe I'm just a scared human realizing how REAL mass extinction might be.

Maybe then, it's the fear of our extinction - the fear of death, that frightens us?

Personally, I am all in favor of human extinction. But since I'm already here, I am going to ride it out, and try to enjoy it, since it's like, why not, it's a free ride after all. The final destination is death anyway, so might as well ride the ride.

I'm in favor of going peacefully, quickly, and quietly whenever my turn comes. If anyone else feels the same way, then "hello" my fellow travel companion. However, if you are truly in favor of "human 'extinction'", then, sorry, no deal. One of us is going to walk home.

It's ok, there will be no human extinction, because of people like you who wouldn't dream of walking away from the human existence game.

And because of people like you, the show must go on...and very much look forward to a peaceful, quick, and quiet passing out day.

There's probably a reason why people like us aren't allowed to play some reindeer games with the rest. That's fine with me. However, apparently, this guy got a little greedy.
