The problem is that his analogy is bad. Nobody "invents" a moronic robot. But the first attempts are always "moronic". The "moronic" aspect would be trying to use the failures as primary examples of the intent. This is why Hairball is outmatched.
The proper analogy is comparing this to Hairball's attempts at philosophy:
