RIP

[Peter Kropotkin]

Yesterday I heard one of my favorite piano
musicians died... on June 4, George Winston died...
now, few have heard of him, but I have been listening
to him since 1981.. his first widely released album,
"Autumn"

I have listened to this album, perhaps 10,000 times...
and with each listening, I get something new and fresh
from it... the first time, I heard it was on a classical radio
station here in California, and the album was just released,
about a week or so earlier.. and he was going to advertise
the album in the local record store, Tower Records..
It was a Saturday and I walked to the bookstore about
a mile and half away.. I was one of 6 people in that
store, that was there for him... I bought the album,
vinyl. and I had him sign it... and he then played some
music from it... and it was glorious...

a week later, I saw him in concert in Berkely CA...
he was the opening act....a solo guitarist whose name
escapes me at the moment was the headliner...
and that was the only time I saw him in concert..
as recently as two weeks ago, I was looking to see
if he had any upcoming concerts...

this death, this death has sadden me considerably...
but as usual, life goes on... and I will play his music,
until my last day...

K: I am legally deaf, however I listen to music on headphones
cranked really, really loud.. it would bust your eardrums
to hear at that level.. my wife can hear it about 10 steps away...

First time I heard him was on the radio in the early 80s as I was driving down a long desolate road on a cold gray windless winter's day. Carol of the Bells. Just as it started, out of nowhere these extraordinarily large snowflakes started slowly wafting down. It was magical.

Well one of my favorite Teds and domestic terrorists died today on the yard u guys.
