Hello!

Post by Chessmaster »

hi everyone,

i've just signed up. I'm 24 from England, I found this site from google.

I only recently became hooked on philosophy after being recommended by my brother to read Arthur Schopenhauer.
I've read alittle bit of his works, and I love it! so I joined here to read, discuss and learn more :)

thanks!
Jonathan

EDIT: I guess that wasn't really a background intro, some things worth mentioning are the fact that i've been very interested in astronomy, and biology. Mainly evolution. And after reading my first philosophy book, i'm intrigued about learning more about the stuff science cannot answer, or as in Arthur Schopenhauers case, the "representation" so i've become obsessed with learning more about humans and why we like music, why a picture of a tree with an apple hanging from it, for example, is a work of genius art, why we laugh, and so on. love it!

Welcome. Don't be put off by rabid rottweillers on the forum, there are plenty of them. The trick is not to take their comments personally.
Have you seen the web site for the Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy. Though it is technical for a newbie, it is a very useful resource.
If you like Schop you might also like Kant and his predecessor Hume.
Schop builds of Kant's Idealism, who builds on Hume's empiricism.
