Most gun homicides in the United States take place in inner-city ghettos (blue/Dem cities) between black thug gang-bangers. Police do not "police" inside gang territories, hence the overwhelming amount of black-on-black gun violence.

Second to this, is black-on-white gun violence and criminality in general, the 'politically incorrect' area.

If black-on-black gun violence and homicides were removed from the equation, then the United States would be comparable (or superior to) European gun homicide rates per capita.

But this is neither here-nor-there. I do see both sides of the argument. I do agree in heavily civilized, feminized societies ("first world nations") that means of weaponry and death ought not be relegated to the regular, average person. However, with respect to a Constitutional Republic, I do see the importance and arguable Need for Citizens to be able to arm themselves, to protect both their individual Rights, and the Right of their State/Republic. However, this is a highly demanding task. Because a Republican society requires that Citizens be heavily educated (NOT indoctrinated), and able to think for themselves, as Free-Thinkers. It's arguable that this is also no longer the case in the United States, as Marxists-Communists-Socialists have infiltrated and interfered with most of the public schools around the country.

Must the only solutions offered for this sticky issue be all or nothing? Does it have to be everyone has guns or no one (I.e. no private citizen) has guns? Is there no middle ground? Can’t any of us come up with a compromise?

Depending on whatever argument you choose to accept, guns are unsafe or necessary for self protection, guaranteed by the Constitution or unimagined by the Framers, and so on.

I would propose that it should only be illegal to sell guns or transfer ownership in any other way. That would put a cap on the number of guns available without taking anyone’s guns away. It is illegal to buy or sell other items (Class I narcotics, eg.). Upon demise of the owner, the arsenal would be submitted to law enforcement or, perhaps, to the military.

Is this at all conceivably practical? Is there a better thought out there?

And since we both know you can't do it, be transparent about the trade-offs you are willing to make just so Nazis can't get guns.

Why are you even on a Philosophy forum ranting about this? Write the law. Call your MP. Follow the process to get the law changed. Or does the self-agrandising intellectual masturbation make you feel like you are actually doing something?

If you write the law in a way that the trade-offs are acceptable to the electorate - they'll vote for it.
If you write it in a way that the trade-offs are unacceptable to the electorate - they'll vote against it.

I have the same recommendation for that as I do with their absurd healthcare setup. There are times when America should quit the exceptionalism thing and look around the world to see whose ideas might be worth implementing locally. There's gun control laws all over the place, see which set works and copy them. America tends to write off everything from elsewhere on some "wouldn't work here" basis that everyone is supposed to just accept.

The simple solution to humanities problems.

Q: Do you feel sick to the stomach when you have to kill someone else in self-defense.
A: Yes.

Q: Would you rather not have to kill someone.

The thing is, humans know they are going to die. That's what makes them suffer emotionally in life, they have a conceptual language that generates meaning and purpose and value for them, and they do not like to lose it.

Therefore, people resent the thought of dying before their time. So the deliberate killing others of others in self-defense, is like a resentment of how dare my life be put under threat by someone else, it's like drinking poison and then expecting the other person to die. For a human it cannot be nice knowing you have to kill someone else so that you live. We all bleed the same blood, and breathe the same air, and feel the same emotions. Howabout we just learn to love ourselves, and not have to kill anyone, I mean, no one usually points a gun at their own head and shoots, so why do it to others. I can understand how one might feel, if they do not like living anymore, they can at least commit suicide, by jumping off a cliff onto some jaggered rocks below. They don't need a gun to kill themself, there are many other ways.

Animals die with grace and dignity, they have no other choice, and yet people seem to resist, or refuse to surrender to the effortless letting go of their life, they attempt to preserve it at all cost. Even into old age, people who can barely get out of bed in the morning due to their failing bodies, are still kept alive by other people thinking they must save a life and prolong it for as long as possible so that they at least live for just one more day.
