It seems at least some part of this issue will involve how the victim is cooked. But this likely reflects my pro-cuisine proclivities.

I am aware, for example, of a recipe for Flank of Oliver.

Then you're not, can't be, an atheist and aren't the one I'm lookin' to have a conversation with.
Why are you looking to have a conversation with me?
❓

I'm not.You started talkin' to me, not me to you.

Not according to the atheist.
You are being silly again, henry.
Why is cannibalism evil?
It isn't evil; I don't hold with the concept of evil. We seem to have a natural aversion to eating our own kind, just as many other animals have that aversion. Lions don't eat one another, and I'm pretty sure it isn't because they think God disapproves of it. Our sense of morality -right and wrong- comes from within us, not from an imaginary super being who gives us a rule book and grants us "natural rights".

Harbal, evil is untranslatable into "natural aversions". It must be something else. There are many languages and we must unite all the languages right now to find AJ and help him.

How about rounding up and killing Jews? Or how about kidnapping black people and enslaving them? Or what about pedophilia and rape? Also "not evil"?

If there is no "concept of evil"...then what, exactly, can you say about them that would guide the uninformed, justify the legal system, or inform public policy on the subject of them?

So, Harbal, admits, quite courageously, there's no foundation, for him, to declare cannibalism (or anything) as evil or wrong.

According to him: Our sense of morality -right and wrong- comes from within as preference, not as a function of moral fact (natural rights).

So, this...
henry quirk wrote: Fri Apr 14, 2023 2:50 pm
If there is no God, no hell, no right and wrong, no moral responsibility, no meaning or significance beyond your pleasure, then existence is meaningless. Nothing you do matters, others do not matter, and what you do with them—and to them—does not matter. Nihilism liberates. For the Sadean egotist, then, everything is permitted. Sade incessantly rationalized the most depraved and libertine sexuality, and every crime including cannibalism and murder.
...is accurate.

Those things are just morally wrong. I don't like the word "evil" because of its religious connotations. I can accept it as simply a word for extreme cruelty or maliciousness, but I avoid using it myself.

No, henry, you are knowingly misrepresenting my views here. If you can't ague your case honestly, perhaps you haven't got a case.

Yes, I can go along with that.

hang in there Harbal. We'll all make it through this if I have to become the one thing I don't wish to become, but I can't do that until I absolutely have to. And if I do, it will spell the end of me. I don't want to end me for AJ's sake. We have to help AJ first to prevent him from hurting himself.

He will want to hurt himself when he finds out what he has truly done. And we must help AJ before he resorts to that, for his sake.

@Henry and IC. AJ is the one you're after, he's willingly made a choice to become evil and refuses to budge from his position. Harbal is weak and needs care and concern which loneliness has left him unable to have or benefit from, he does not deserve abomination if he does not turn to evil. Harbal, hang in there. I will give you what strength I can spare. But AJ is a priority, he must be helped for reasons of supreme importance. AJ is the one.
