many seek what we might call, unity or a unified understanding
of existence.....we feel individual, separate, apart from others,
the society, the state and yet, if we think about it, we are in fact,
quite engaged in unity.....the trick is not to find unity,
but to see it...
what is the universe? why, it is atoms... we, human beings,
cats, stars, planets, tv sets, iPhones, are all, all atoms..
there is nothing in the universe apart or separated from atoms....
we are fully connected to "what is" and "what was".. as what was,
was simply atoms in some format....Lenin, Jesus, Tolstoy are all just
atoms in motion...we are fundamentally connected to them as we have
their atoms within us, right now...and we have the atoms of every
single human beings alive in us right now...recall in physics, that
matter cannot be destroyed... it can be converted, but not destroyed...
in every breath you take, you are taking in atoms that have been
around since the beginning of time.....we are connected...
even if you don't, can't see it....
everything we see is part of the laws of physics, the laws of
existence.... everything, everything is in decay, suffering from
entropy....everything.... we are connected in that going from
order to disorder... and back again....as we too go from order to disorder.
our disorder is called aging... and the final results of disorder/entropy is
death from old age....we may die of other things first, but we will
certainly die of old age, or the carrying out of the disorder/entropy
in human lives.....
the fact that we must obey or follow the laws of existence, the forces
of the universe, gravity, entropy, physics, evolution, is another connecting
factor in our lives, our existence....we are subject to the laws of
physics or entropy or gravity as surely as we live and breath right now....
there is no escape from them.....thats not to say we shouldn't try,
but these are the battles, the real battles we should be engaged with
as human beings... not meaningless fights about money or land or
fame, power or material possessions.....
in wondering about the point of existence, the answer lie not in
fighting for the baubles of existence, for they are temporary,
and quite meaningless.....but to overcome the forces of existence,
to rise above the laws of physics or overcome gravity, that is a task
worthy of being human....as a parent, I can tell you that the biggest
lesson a parent learns is this, pick your battles... you can't fight every
battle, it takes too much energy...so fight the ones that are worth
your energy and time......and what has more value, temporary
values like fame or money? or values like justice or freedom?
we need to rethink, revaluate what is actually important....
and thinking that we are isolated, separated beings is simply
not the right battle to fight.. for we are connected, we just
need to learn to see it....

This is well-flogged dead horse mon ami. No, monsieur, that's not it! What I mean is ... True, true but look at it this way ... ad nauseum/ad infinitum. As (wannabe) philosophers we do things a certain way but whistling is just whistling, oui?

In 1897, Lord Kelvin said this:
"There is nothing new to be discovered in physics now. All that
remains is more and more precise measurement"
And why would Lord Kelvin say such an ignorant thing given
that within 8 years, Einstein would blow it all up with his
"year of miracle's"...
The basic reason is exactly the one you assumed, that a reevaluation
of our beliefs is a "dead horse" there is nothing to be gained by
rethinking or reevaluating our beliefs...what can be gained by
rethinking or reevaluating our beliefs? and the answer is the entire
point of philosophy...to reorientate ourselves to the ever changing
values and environment that we live in...a new environment, be it
social, technologically base, philosophically, political, requires, no,
demands that we reevaluate who we are and what beliefs we hold...
when we "beat a dead horse"... ummmmm, anyway, we are
revisting, revaluating our values because our values must
change to meet our current situation in our lives....
to be honest, this is why most people on this board are not
very good philosophers... they won't revisit or reevaluate
what values they have and what values would work "best" given
the ever changing reality we all live in....most people
are stuck on a certain given number of values/beliefs
and they are unable to see their way clear to a reevaluation,
because it looks like "beating a dead horse".....
