Re Know Thyself: Majority are Ignorant Yet Arrogant

Should you think about your duty, or about the consequences of your actions? Or should you concentrate on becoming a good person?

Re Know Thyself: Majority are Ignorant Yet Arrogant

Post by Veritas Aequitas »

Having completed a course in the basic Principles of Genetics, Molecular Biology, Genomics, Rational Medicines, I dare say the majority of posters here are very ignorant in terms of 'Know Thyself' and yet they are so arrogant they know much and having credibility to condemn others.

Btw, I am not claiming I know all of the above in width and depth but at least I am aware of the basic knowledge to make reasonable hypotheses [with reservations] that are rational.

Here is what the majority are lacking in basic knowledge re Know Thyself;

Cells and DNA
1. The total number of cells in the human body, the scientists came up with … 37.2 trillion cells in the human body.
https://www.nationalgeographic.com/scie ... -your-body#:
2. Within each cell there are 46 [23 pairs] Chromosomes comprising strings of double stranded DNA.
3. The total length of the DNA [Genome] in each cell is appx. 6 feet in length.
4. Each Genome has 3 billion pairs of A, T, G, and C Neuclotides strings together.
5. Within the Human Genome, there are about 25,000 genes that determine the physical traits of each individual.

RNA
Floating within each cells there a wide range of RNAs.

Proteins
The DNAs encodes and in co-operation with RNAs enable the production of the 20 different amino acids [Proteins] necessary for the human bodily functions and for one to exist as a human being.

The above are basic knowledge but what complicates it is, the complex mechanisms involved and the possible combinations within the 3 billion pairs of nucleotides with the combinations of the letters A, T, G or C via 3 billion years of evolution.

In addition, the RNA has their complex combinations as well.

The amino acids folding into the specific proteins is also complicated having a 20 to the Power of 20 potential combinations.

My point is, one cannot be that arrogant of one's argument or conclusion without giving reservation to the above underlying complexities.

Say, if a theists insist God exists, how can they be so sure if they ignore the above variables which are grounding their conclusion.

If the same with the Moral Fact Deniers who are arrogant [grounded on ignorance] to deny Objective Moral Facts exist simply relying on the words of Hume and subsequent philosophers who blindly followed Hume?

It is the same with whatever philosophical propositions or beliefs one hold, that one cannot be so arrogant with their ignorance "Know Thyself" on the above matters.

I read a book about the epidermis. I pluck near random quotes from that book. I put the quotes in a thread with a general insult for a title.
The unexamined life is not worth living; Most people are ignorant and arrogant.

I never explain how my facts about the epidermis connects with knowing myself: iow show what I learned in some way related to philosophy.
I never support my title. I never connect the epidermis to ethics (the subforum we are in)
and some of what I write - the possibly philosophical part - is nearly unintelligible.....

Then you are one of the few who know about the epidermis. Which means you qualify to make comments on ethics. Hold forth!

Like VA, who has just taken his first course in genetics, I had just take my first course, in my case related to the surface. Unlike VA, I am humble. He leaps to the core, the nuclei and it's contents, and suffers from hubris and incoherence. Now in my second course in the dermi, and now a journeyman away from arrogance

I see that the skin itself is the result of moral genetic expression....like every other part of the body. Oh, centrioles dividing stoff, oh divine staircase creating.
The Good is Beautiful.
-Plato
The good, of course, is always beautiful, and the beautiful never lacks proportion.
-Plato

And more importantly in context.....
The only possible account is that the appearance of purposiveness in nature is conditioned by the supersensible realm underlying nature. But this means that beauty is a kind of revelation of the hidden substrate of the world, and that this substrate has a necessary sympathy with our highest human projects. To this, Kant adds a series of important analogies between the activity of aesthetic judgment and the activity of moral judgment. These analyses lead Kant to claim that beauty is the ‘symbol of morality’.
Thus, Kant has demonstrated that the physical and moral universes – and the philosophies and forms of thought that present them – are not only compatible, but unified.
Next we move to the profound....
