How do you know that?

What do you think he would say?

Maybe 'Christ' would be nothing like what's represented by Christians or those who claim to know 'Christ'. Maybe 'Christ' would be disgusted with such self-absorbed delusional wannabees who claim to uniquely know him. Maybe 'Christ' IS here! Where else might 'Christ' be?
How do I know that? - let's just call it intuition. Everyone within this thread would require a miracle to be performed (evidence) prior to taking the fella seriously.
Well, my intuition is pretty good, and it says there are a bunch of nutjobs around here pretending to know things from their imagination. It's pretty easy to tell if someone can verbally back up or demonstrate what they're claiming is true, without requiring a miracle from them. Most cannot get past that first part. That's ON THEM. It's not everyone else's responsibility to believe or disprove their nonsense claims.

Truth isn't that hard to see... when your identity isn't so invested in it.

I have NOTHING to gain by "mining" your minds - none of you have any insight into the subject at hand beyond books.

So I shall simply say: FUCK OFF. :P
Good advice! I think I'll take it.

The 'one' who the words 'jesus christ' refers to, EXACTLY, is totally appalled by the ones 'like' "immanuel can" here.

Those who BELIEVE and speak as though they KNOW what is MEANT in the bible is ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING,
especially when it is CLEARLY OBVIOUS that they do NOT, as well as being a behavior that is in EXACT OPPOSITION of what is being GUIDED by, in the bible.

Case in point. You'd be the first to condescend to him and tell him he is a nutjob using his imagination to project fantasies!

Why do you say that? Just because I don't agree with religion?

I think we ('Christ' and I) would have a great discussion! I think we'd easily see eye-to-eye, much more so than I do with some of the religious ding-dongs here. I don't think God or Jesus are anything like the depictions created by humans. I think the truth is WAY, WAY BEYOND THAT. :)

Sure, and that's fine but you would condescend to him and tell him he is a nutjob right up until he proves (via a "miracle") that he is who he says he is. Then and only then would you accept what he has to say and talk to him with some respect.

See how you just ignore anything beyond your beliefs? You think you know exactly how it would go... so that's how it must be. Very foolish.

C'mon, really, don't YOU think that the truth is WAY, WAY BEYOND what you or anyone else imagines or believes?

And why couldn't clarity and truth be understood immediately without any theatrical miracles?

The problem is that people get swept up by their imaginations and imagine themselves to be uniquely tuned into a god... which makes no sense! A god... or divine energy... or cosmic truth... or whatever... is not wasted on ONE person. It's just ridiculous. Better to ask: Why does such a person NEED to believe such a thing about themselves? Why can't everybody have equal access and divinity?

You know you'd be a condescending fool to towards him (until he provided you with evidence).

This is all irrelevant to the point I am making. However, the irony that as a non-believer you are wondering why divinity has not revealed itself to you! ffs.

I don't need evidence. As I said, I don't think it's hard to see the truth when people reflect it. It's also not hard to see nonsense and self-indulgence when people are spun up in that.

I'm not wondering any such thing. Why do you make up so much shit, atto? I think everything and everyone is part of 'the divine'. Do you really not see such a thing for yourself? Please explain how it makes sense that anything would be excluded from 'the divine'. And according to who... and for what purpose?

Gary Childress wrote: Wed Nov 02, 2022 12:12 am So I'd like to ask a knowledgeable Christian something. I cede that you know the Bible well, IC. I cede that you're generally honest and up front to the best of your reckoning. So I ask you this:

1. Does the bible not say that adultery is sin?
It's commandment #7 of the 10.
2. And is sex outside of marriage not adultery?
It depends. Are the participants married, or not? It could be "fornication" or "lewdness," without being "adultery." In any case, it's a sin, too.
3. And are the "wages of sin" not death?
Yes.
4. And "death" in this instance refers to becoming a resident of hell?
That depends. Is one going to do anything about one's sin, or is one not? Is one going to accept salvation, or refuse it?

One could be an adulterer, or one of many things, and not end up under judgment, if one is willing to accept responsibility and humble oneself so as to seek God's mercy. See 1 Cor. 6:9-11.

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor those habitually drunk, nor verbal abusers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God."
[underline mine]
5. And hell is eternal?
See, for example Rev. 14:11.
Is all the above correct as stated in the Bible and is the Bible the final word on matters pertaining to God?
Not quite correct, but in the ballpark, so to speak. See my comments for changes.
So I'd like to have sex outside of marriage. If I act on that impulse repeatedly, knowing what the Bible says, will I go to hell?
If you perform any sin "repeatedly, knowing what the Bible says" (as you put it) and thus unrepentantly, the outcome is exactly the same. But it's not merely adultery, or fornication...it's all the other things listed, as well. And it doesn't have to be "repeatedly," since sin is an all-or-nothing kind of thing, as Jesus Himself so clearly said. (Matt. 5:28) And it's the nature or character that "likes" (as you put it) to do such things that makes one unsuitable for eternal life.

So there are two problems: the action, which in its own right calls for judgment, and the nature that "likes" that sort of thing, and which is not merely prone to that one thing, but to many other sins as well. It's not just what one has done; it's that one is the sort of person who 'likes' to do such things. That takes the problem to a whole new level. It's clear that stopping the person from doing the one action isn't, in any way, going to address the root of the nature that makes him inclined to it.

I trust that's a straightforward and plain answer.
Fornication can be very pleasurable. What's wrong with having it with someone who isn't married? Why would I go to hell for it? What does God care if we pleasure ourselves or not? So long as no one is hurt, I don't see a problem with it. What's wrong with fornication among consenting adults while using a condom or something? Does God dislike when we have pleasure? Is God some sort of sadist?

I mean, does the bible say anything about drug use such as crack cocaine or meth or just mind-altering substances in general? "Thou shalt not fry thy brain with crack," for example? I believe those are far more destructive than sex and yet they aren't anywhere in the commandments. If the Bible doesn't say anything about it does that mean we can get stoned as much as we want?
