Re: Beliefs
1. Some claims cohere (with others) or are useful. They're not true in the sense "the moon reflects sunlight" is true.
2. There's this joke about Socrates who refused to listen to what his friend had to say because it was not certain, not useful, and not going to make him happy (Xanthippe was having an affair).

Sorry, that's just sophistry. I'm willing to bet that you were confident they would appear. And there's no difference between that, and believing it.
Re: Beliefs
LOL NO DIFFERENCE between 'confident' AND 'believing'?
Have you ever LOOKED in a dictionary, (and you do NOT need eyesight to LOOK and SEE 'things'), and if you have, then have you EVER NOTICED that each word HAS A DIFFERENT meaning or definition?
And, because each word has A DIFFERENT definition or meaning this means that there IS ACTUALLY A DIFFERENCE between those two words and ALL words.
Oh, and by the way, I had NEVER even wondered if those, nor even these, words would appear or not. In fact I really do NOT care either way, and I CERTAINLY neither BELIEVE nor DISBELIEVE that they would, nor will, nor NOT.
Re: Beliefs
In the real world, there's no difference. That's how we live in the world, by believing a whole load of things.Age wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:05 amLOL NO DIFFERENCE between 'confident' AND 'believing'?

You CAN speak for you and be CORRECT, but when you 'try to' speak for 'me' you will NOT be correct ALL of the time, like here now.Maia wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:29 amIn the real world, there's no difference. I NEITHER believe NOR disbelieve ANY thing (except for one thing). Can you comprehend this? Do you understand this?
Re: Beliefs
Of course I can understand it, but you are deceiving yourself, if that's what you really believe. Why bother getting up in the morning?Age wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:34 amYou CAN speak for you and be CORRECT, but when you 'try to' speak for 'me' you will NOT be correct ALL of the time, like here now.Maia wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:29 amIn the real world, there's no difference. LOL but I OBVIOUSLY do NOT really 'believe' 'it'.Maia wrote: ↑Wed Oct 19, 2022 11:44 amOf course I can understand it, but you are deceiving yourself, if that's what you really believe.
So, I am NOT deceiving "myself", like those who BELIEVE things are true, which are NOT true. Like, for example, they can NOT even live nor function WITHOUT BELIEVING 'things'.
'To SEE what the day brings', as some might say.
