Why does it seem like that's the only possible reason? Why not consider the superiority reflected by many theists -- claiming they are ALIGNED WITH A GOD, and know the truth of things and will be rewarded for it, while others (including other theists) are bad and will suffer. Why not consider that non-theists might sneer at religion because of its obvious imagination, absurdity, distortions, and abuses? Why not consider that there are MANY conflicting theist belief systems, so there is every reason to question someone who claims that ONLY THEY are aligned with THE TRUTH?
