Life for 95% of people even 250 years ago was on less than 3 inflation-adjusted dollars a day. Less than half lived to age 10 and an average lifespan was less than 40.
Nevertheless, this isn't utopia. Utopia is a direction, not a destination, and we can certainly do much better very easily if we apply the resources in the right places.
