Trump - a puzzling enigma

For philosophical reflections on the COVID-19 pandemic. How can philosophy help us to understand it, to combat it and to survive it?

sorry, no can do

I'm all for reformin' it, but eliminatin' the EC and goin' to solely to a popular vote violates state sovereignty
It’s a national/federal election.
state sovereignty doesn't go away cuz of that: each state runs its own show across all circumstances

as for reform: I favor each state gettin' one electoral vote with that vote goin' to the candidate who wins a simple majority of that state's votes

california goes for the houseplant & whore: the houseplant & whore win california's one electoral vote

ORANGE MAN & The Christian win louisiana's popular election: ORANGE MAN & The Christian win louisuana's one electoral vote, and so forth and so on

in the event of a tie (25 to 25), congress, as a body, votes, with its one electoral vote goin' to the winner of a simple majority

it's moot: the EC isn't goin' anywhere, and my proposed reformation will never be implemented

as you say: "Get used to it."

I agree it’s moot and I agree that reform could be better than eliminating. I would like to add that there needs to be a way that the principle of one person/one vote is preserved.

YES, the EC must go. IT'S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH A TRUE DEMOCRACY. JUST ASK THOSE THAT CREATED IT.

THEY SET THE RULES AND SELFISH NATIVE AMERICAN MURDERERS BASTARDIZED IT LIKE THEY'VE DONE TO EVERYTHING THEY'VE TOUCHED!

You have no idea what you're talking about. A true Democracy has no EC, and it should be abolished completely.

the US is not a democracy

the US is a constitutional republic

and -- if you wanna dump the EC -- the method is spelled out in the constitution

good luck tiltin' at that windmill

wanna ensure one man-one vote?

*end early votin'
*end mail-in ballots (but retain absentee votin')
*require valid identification to vote
*rigidly adhere to cut off times for acceptin' ballots

that is: no, trumpists aren't riotin' (most of 'em work) and commies still are (they don't work)

And now back to our regularly scheduled program of normalcy.

C’mon you, SOB, it’s time to put the trash talk aside.
It's only Trash Talk to those that fear it, and to, would be, elitists. Tell a sailor on a ship at sea for 6 months, with no females, and a port and starboard duty cycle that crap, and you'd be the subject of a man over board drill. And they usually never find those fuckers. Sailors..., you know those guys that sacrificed their lives so that you whimps can live free and build your empires gathering the glittering prize, while they have none of it! No holidays with family, missed births, no real relaxation and eventually estrangement from family due to extended separation. And those are the lucky ones that don't come back in pine boxes or with missing limbs or half a brain. It's so easy to sit in your easy chair, and forget about those that protect you're doing so. Yes, they all cussed, all the way up the chain of command to the captain. And yes, old habits die hard, once you've done it for 16 years!

You are right, but quit complaining. That was then, and this is now. To all anti-Trumpers, progressives and social Democrats, all I can say is get over it.
How many died because of that feet dragging fucking murderer, while he got the best treatment that, how much money can buy??? Children have died from COVID-19. He should be tried, convicted and sent to death row!

And you pro-Trumpers, conservatives and Republicans spewing your venom about the calamities of the next 4 yrs, you had your turn. That was then, and this is now. Get used to it.
You're right here, they should shut the fuck up! What, not enough deaths for everyone but them. Fucking ghouls!

Right. Because Trump is responsible for covid. It will be most excellent to see Biden wave his magic wand and send it away.

I'm just an outsider (a 'non-American life form'), but haven't the Democrats been saying for the past four years that the last election was a fraud, and that Trump cheated his way into power? Forgive me if I'm wrong.

one of two things will happen...

the houseplant doubles down on beer virus policy, tryin' for a national maskin' mandate, for example

...or...

suddenly, without the houseplant doin' diddly, beer virus is declared whupped

with the first: good luck with that, smokin' joe...on the state level, folks are rebellin' against lockdowns and maskin' and goin' to court, and increasingly courts are rulin' against governors and their exec orders and against public health officers...if the houseplant tries to mandate that shit nationally it'll end up in the supreme court and be declared unconstitutional

with the second: it would a clear admission that beer virus wasn't nuthin' and the dire warnings and measures were just, in fact, propaganda and over-reaction (or tyranny)

the houseplant could opt to do what ORANGE MAN did, which is a whole whack of constitutionally mandated nuthin' (prezs don't dictate to states) but then he'll have to justify doin' nuthin' since he threw a whole pile of feces ORANGE MAN's way for that supposed inaction

no matter what the houseplant does about beer virus: he's screwed, the dems are screwed

You have no idea what EC is. In the original incarnation of a democracy as created by the Greeks there was no EC. And anyone could be voted out of office at any time, if they were not favored by and for the people. In all situations the majority won, PERIOD! That's not a dictatorship, it's a true democracy. Not this farce that is the USA's version with it's idiotic EC.
