Should you think about your duty, or about the consequences of your actions? Or should you concentrate on becoming a good person?

I join this group of senseless sense makers because it's all there is to do on a philosophy forum.
Okay, you do what you gotta do, but it also means having your own "sense" held up to scrutiny.

I don't believe it comes from God. Is that more to your liking? I don't believe it comes from the king of the goblins, either.
It can't possibly come from anywhere but your own belief.
Harbal wrote: Sun May 24, 2020 2:28 pmA person who believes that morality comes from God, and a person who doesn't believe in God, cannot have a sensible discussion about morality.
Is that because humans believe they are the knowers of knowledge? even though you've stated that you do not have any concern over where the knower comes from...in other words, you just have your beliefs about where the knower comes from, and anyone who doesn't believe what you believe is not capable of having a sensible discussion about morality...even though the concept (morality) is known to any one who can read a dictionary.

Yep, makes perfect sense. NOT.

But that would require an inquirer, and you have already admitted you have no concern over where such an inquirer would come from, so you'd be wasting your time on inquiring into something that is not actually there to even bother about.

Just remember if you do ever worry, you can always make the excuse that you are not worried, when you really are.

It's our moral duty to put on a happy face in the face of this pointless mindless ''where am I'' ''what I am'' ''I have no idea or concern for that'' doom scenario that is the fate of all sentient life. But I'll just make it all up as I go along anyway.

No they are not born with either sense. A moral sense is learnt behavior, the sense is an artificially contructed imposed progamme imputed into the brain of the new life from another source other than their own.
Harbal wrote: Tue May 19, 2020 12:54 pmI also suggest that the precepts that appeal to this sense and inform it with regard to how it motivates us to behave, are also human in origin. I do not believe they come from God, but are entirely the product of human consensus.
Morals are a product of it's artificially contructed concept. In reality, it has no existence outside of it's artifical creation, there is no sentient life form that is born with a sense of any morality, it's an artificially created idea imposed upon the sense of a separate self that does not exist except as an ideal character in the mind of the creator which can only exist as a fiction.

I have no idea what you are talking about. I have no idea what I am talking about.

I just make it all up as I go along.

Do we have a moral duty to pull the plug on this meat grinder we call human sentient life? is it immoral to want to stop the carnival. Nothing lasts for ever, we don't have to keep putting off the inevitable.

You'll only participate when it suits you. Dammed if I care what you choose or not choose to do with your human knowledge.

Ah... because there cannot be real happiness behind any happy face... it must be fake! That's the conclusion of those who need to believe such a thing.

That's exactly what you are doing. And it's interesting to look at what you are making up.

Is it true Eastern religious philosophy is fatalistic about suffering ? I mean to retreat to the safety of Atman is Brahman is understandable and possibly how reality is. But suffering is felt by all including DAM.
There would be historical cause of fatalism among the poor of ancient India and China. And there would be historical cause of how the European poor were able to respond with rebellion, or some other sort of positive steps such as emigration, against natural and human causes of poverty. Fatalism serves us badly.
