Philosophy of History

I'm struggling with the concept of history. I cannot find a discussion on the Philosophy of History. Could anyone give me a starter please? Can we ever be sure that x happened in the past. If not absolutely sure, then how sure? Is history primarily interested in the past or are its roots set firmly here in the present? Any suggestion?
